Do you take your own candy to the movies?

I have never smuggled anything into the theater! But now I am thinking about it!

DH and I took kids to a matinee of Shrek 2 yesterday. $23.00 for the tix. $13.50 for large popcorn, 2 large drinks (both with free refills) and a large bag of skittles. Grand total of $36.50 or $9.13 per person. I dont think $9.13 per person is bad, but everytime I take the whole family to see a movie I feel like I just broke the bank! I cannot see the big picture that $36.50 for a fun filled afternoon watching a funny movie with the family is actually not a bad price to pay.

I have no problem paying $270 for season passes to six flags or $120 to go to see the circus. Whats wrong with me? Why does if feel sooo expensive to go see a movie?

Nope. I just tell my kids we'll get something when we leave. Usually after an hour they pester me enough I get them something anyway, and I make sure they share it with me.

When it is just me, I don't eat candy or popcorn cause the prices are too high.

For the kids, when we go to the normal theater, I take in a bag of whatever candy they want, and a bottle of water in my purse. I usually do buy a bag of popcorn though.

At our base theater, they allow you to bring in food/drinks, but the stuff they sell is much more reasonable. They charge 75 cents for a normal sized candy bar, and $3 for a huge thing of popcorn. At that theater I buy it.

Of course, my family always took picnics to the state fair, so I was raised to not overpay for things!

I bring in our own candy and water. They make enough on us from the popcorn. Nope I do not feel bad for the movie theater not when it is now 9.00 bucks to see a show. I am now only going for only the really great shows and will spend my money on purchasing or renting the DVDs. It has become way too expensive to go see a movie.

We just did this the other day when we saw Shrek 2. To make things worst there is a store right next to the movie theater that sells movie size candy and snacks and the sign right over the candy says "why pay movie prices for candy when you can get it here for a $1". We stocked up on candy and enjoyed the movie. Do I feel bad.., nope. That same box of $1 Dots was $3.75 in the movie theater. I enjoyed it even more and so did my daughter and niece.

I don't bring candy...don't buy it either.

I do bring 3 brown paper bags (lunch bags). I then buy a large popcorn and divide it into 3 popcorns (1 brown bag per child). I have brought in juice boxes before. The only drink option at the movies is soda. The cups are WAY too big for my kids. If my son drank half of it, we'd take 3 trips to the bathroom in an hour. Also, if the soda spills, it makes a very sticky mess for us and anyone on the down-hill slope ahead of us. I would buy juice boxes there, if they sold them.

FWIW...I don't see the problem with someone bringing in a reasonable amount of candy. I think sneaking in a mini-buffet pushes the issue. Who needs to eat all that in 90 minutes anyway.

I went, by myself, to see Shrek 2 the Friday after it opened.

I paid $6 for my ticket, and $9 something at the concession stand.

(it was an early show - and I hadn't eaten breakfast yet) So i bought a large popcorn (in the shrek 2 bucket) and a large diet soda.

yes - I had some candy in my purse too...some M&M's from home. ((which I forgot I had and therefore didn't eat.)

I plan on doing the same thing this friday when I treat myself to Harry Potter.

I wish to god that the movie theater I go to would let me bring in a coffee from Dunkin Donuts next store - I'd be so much happier. (But I have been known to put a waterbottle in my purse when I see movies with DH - he never shares the soda)

Yes, I bring in candy and/or other small snacks for my 3 kids. If I didn't- they'd cost WAY too much in snacks and therefore we'd go to see a lot less movies. I'd probably end up JUST buying the movies later- instead of how I do it now... which is taking them to see all kid/animated & Disney movies and then later buying the tapes so they can watch them at home too. I'd just buy them but my kids like the theatre and I don't blame them. My youngest calls it watching the movie on the "big tv". LOL

We do buy popcorn and soda while there... but I take in my water bottle (I only drink water) and I take in a few snacky type things for the kids (like fruit chew type snacks). They don't sell those there anyway and the candy is RIDICULOUSlY priced. They are already making a killing off of us with the movie tickets, popcorn and soda.
(if they are really hungry because I haven't timed it right with mealtime- then they'll get hotdogs and/or nachos or that type of thing while there... I don't sneak a meal in LOL)

Yes, as stated before, prices are ridiculously high. We do, however, buy a big tub of popcorn and I make sure to clean up any mess and not leave any trash behind!

I smuggle candy. We go to the movies in the theatre at the mall where there happens to be a dollar store on the lower level. We always stop by the dollar store and stock up on candy and snacks. I don't feel bad about it at all. I sometimes buy a drink there or carry by big purse and fill it with drinks for the family. Gosh, one time we even smuggled in Chick-fil-A for dinner when we were seeing a movie that started at 6:30pm.

I don't see anything wrong with sneaking candy in, but what I can't STAND is when GHETTOFIED families bring in food they cooked at home to eat in the theater.

I don't care what color or nationality they are it's just plain GHETTO

I paid $30 for me and 3 small kids for a kids size popcorn and soda for each boy and 3 boxes of candy. I got a large soda too.
