I've read a lot about people taking airborn and spraying down things w/Lysol to keep all the germs from spreading during winter & cold/flu season. Do you think it is that important to do in June?

Germs don't care what season it is, take the same precautions year-round.

Exactly.

This is especially true when you travel. Your immune system is probably pretty efficient at fighting off the germs in your local area. But to your immune system, a stomach bug from California looks totally different than your local stomach bug, and when your immune system has never encountered a particular germ before, the chances of you getting sick from that germ are pretty darn good ... the chances of getting sick are excellent compared with your exposure to a comparable stomach bug at home.

So when you go to Walt Disney World, you are exposed not only to the resident Central Florida strains of germs, but also the many thousands of strains of germs brought to WDW from just about every city and county in the United States, not to mention from other nations.

In addition, when you are on vacation your immune system tends to be somwhat weakened by less sleep, increased fatigue and dehydration. So your slightly weakened immune system + exposure to "foreign" germs = higher (than usual) likelihood of getting sick. This equation is equally true every day of the year.

My usual precautions wherever I go, whatever the season, are: wash hands often, use Germex, don't drink out of water fountains. Other than that, don't stress it. Germs are everywhere. Sometimes they get ya, sometimes they don't! :yay:

This reminds me when I visited a cavern in Puerto Rico.Well we came to an area with a wall that had water flowing along the side and the guide very confidently said " The water is 100% pure and you can try it if you want",well I did and definitely regretted it!!!!

I always make sure that I strictly give the kids their allergy meds and pump up the vitamins about a month before we go, which is usually in the fall. However, sickness can occur anytime.

I agree with taking a few extra precautions around vacation time. We, also, will pump up the vitamins a few weeks before the trip. I like to bring lysol wipes to do a little cleaning in hotels rooms. Things like the TV remote, phone, door handles, etc. The stuff that might never get cleaned.

I have been very sick on vacation before and it totally ruins everything. So, I will do what I can, without getting obsessive about it.

Whenever we go on trips, this is what I do- but, I'm also crazy...:rotfl2:

Week before trip- probiotic yogurt every day, take multi-vitamin every day
Evening before flight- airborn
Morning of flight- airborn
Onflight- NEVER touch face or eat anything without using hand sanitizer first
Once we get in the hotel room- put tv remote in plastic bag, disinfect ALL surfaces with Lysol Wipes (including phone, door knobs, counters, EVERYTHING)
Continue using hand sanitizer before eating or touching face every day, continue taking multi-vitamin
Night before flight- airborn
Morning of flight- airborn

This keeps me and DH healthy when we go on trips. You also want to make sure that you drink LOTS of water, and even use nasal spray, or put petrol. jelly up your nose before the flight to make sure the inside of your nose is 'moist'. The dry nasal passages are a haven for germs circulated in the airplane cabin.

There's my 2 cents. I do that ANY time of year
