Ok no insulting or bashing just honest opinions and respect for other opinions.

Do you support the military actions and what the stand for. Looking at country's that have stayed out of the pot when it comes to this war in Afghanistan, do you think we should have pulled out sooner? never really started. Do you think it is a noble life to sign up to leave your family for a country that in the end is not going to give you much support?
looking at the economy do you think the military( Meaning all troops, soldiers, branches) would be better suited here helping our country?

Personally I think you guys pulled out way too soon in Afghanistan when the Iraq war started. All the effort that went into Iraq should have gone into Afghanistan. It's probably the most difficult country to get under control on earth and you left nato in charge; and most of nato refused to go to the difficult areas. If Russia couldn't handle it how was Canada supposed to?

I completely support those who have volunteered themselves for the protection of our country, no matter where or how they are assigned to serve.

Do you think we should have gone in in the first place? I personally do not. I think most here no my POV it is not an insult to anyone. Just how I feel. If it upsets you. I'm truly sorry. I just think this is a great discussion to have. There are so many POV and backgrounds and I think sometimes people blindly support without thinking about what they are truly supporting. In the end we all live our own lives and that is what is important.
My feelings are this:
I don't find it honorable. The sacrifices these military families make are too much for a war that will not profit anyone, because DEATH is a loss no matter who is dying. People are fighting a war that is based on lies. They have signed up for it because the governments agenda, via the media, made them believe that there was a threat. A threat that wasn't really there. It does sadden me that people are ok with having to see their families leave and not know if they will come back. And thus have to put on this brave face and WORAH mantra. I would never allow my husband to do that to my family. There are some dreams I would never support. Oil? Money? Ghost weapons of war? When people in this country are dying every day, losing their homes, not able to afford heath care? By fighting there we are losing bigger wars here. To me THAT is the war military should be concerned with and nothing else.

I am the wife of a career Navy man and very proud of it. Our military is there for the express purpose of protecting our country and it's people from outside enemies, not working to fix the housing crisis. I think we probably should have stayed out of Iraq and focused on Afganistan fully from the beginning, but what's done is done and we have to focus on the future. I certainly don't like when my DH or my brother, who is in the Army, have to go on deployment. But you know what you sign up for when you join and that is part of the job and we as family members have to deal with it.

Yup, in that case absolutely. It was a failed state was harbouring terrorists and their training grounds who went on to attack on US soil after attacking military targets around the world. And not only did they allow these guys to live in their country they, the Taliban followed the same beliefs that they did and supported them in their methods. It was totally justified to go in there. I still would support our troops being there past 2011 when they are scheduled to pull out if I thought it was winnable.

Aren't some of the military forces over there helping communities build homes and get proper drinking water? Why could they not do that here?

I would think that it is because there are agencies in our country to do this very thing. The military is in place to protect our country.

Exactly, and had they been allowed to finish in Afghanistan they would have made the west far safer.

Because our country is already developed. If anything, we have to many homes.

Is thread really about supporting military & families OR supporting the war? I'm confused.

I would say yes since its been the career choice in this house for the past 26 years. You can be in the military without being deployed to a warzone. Deployments here have been stateside for Katrina for example. Working in Alaska to build roads. Working in CA on the US/Mexico border fence.

I wish the OP would get it out of her mind that all military are killers and don't do anything to help out.

I basically agree with this post. My DH is in the Army and has been deployed to Iraq 3 times. I also think we should have finished things in Afganistan, before going into Iraq, however I personally believe the world is better off with Hussein gone ect. I also completely agree that the military has a specific job and it's not to solve our economic problems here...that's someone else's job. We have police; FBI; US Marshalls ect. to protect us against crimes within our own country, but again that's not what the military is for. Heck no I don't like to have to deal with my DH leaving for a year here, there ect. and not knowing for sure if he's coming back (although I'd say anywhere you don't know for sure if someone's coming back home safely at night) but someone has to do it, and since there are ppl. that won't or wouldn't allow their SO's to do it; I'm very proud that my DH and our family makes that sacrifice. Like I said, for every job there is, someone has to do it, my DH chose this one. For the record, I didn't grow up around anything/anyone military and I did't want anything to do with it, thought it was a very weird thing (for lack of a better word), and while I still don't agree with everything the military does or how they treat their soldiers, I have grown to GREATLY respect the soldiers that fight and sacrifice for our country.

I live in SD and have many a friends that have served in Iraq and Afghanistan. They all have come home telling us of all the good that is going on there that is not being reported....and it gets them mad.

I feel that the reasoning going into Iraq was wrong but I also feel that having some stability in the middle east is important. And getting rid of Hussein(sp) was a good thing not a bad thing. I believe and feel that going in there has made us a little bit safer....if not know in the future.

As for Afghanistan we need to do more.

I hate war....always have....when I was younger I protested the war. But that was before I understood it and the reasoning behind it.

If there was another way to avoid war that would be great...but talks dont always work. If talks aways worked than we could apply it to all the people in prisons and say...Hay dont do that again ....and if they said OH Okay than all the prisons could be closed. Hoping for something is one thing....the reality of it is another.

So do I agree with war...no....do I believe we need it....yes.....at times.

It's not your opinion of disagreeing with the war which is so insulting, it's all the ridiculous assumptions you make about military members and their families.

Out of curiosity, do you have a problem with this kind of military work too?

I doubt if anyone could explain to you the concept of patriotism and love of country that leads the vast majority of our military to continue to serve. I thank God I am lucky enough to have these brave men and women serving my country, despite the obvious disdain with which they are held by some.
