On the dining plan with table service do you still get and appetizer, entree, and dessert?

Not on the regular dining plan. On the regular dining plan, you get an entree, non-alcoholic beverage and dessert. On the deluxe, you get an appetizer.

Thanks! That's what I read and thought, but when I asked two CMs theyy said we got an appetizer...

Ever since we did the deluxe dining two years ago, I think it's so worth going during free dining and paying for the upgraded dining to deluxe. We just booked October at Wilderness Lodge with free dining and we added the deluxe dining.

If you space your meals right, your covered perfectly and never hungry, while getting to try food from so many places. We usually do a 9 AM breakfast, 3PM late lunch and a 8-9PM dinner. It gives us enough time to be hungry for every meal and not feel like a cow when getting an app/entree/dessert each :dance3:

I considered doing this as well, but still only having two meals a day and using the other credits to have shows and signature dining each day. Worth it?

This is exactly what we do. We always do the Deluxe Plan!! This will be the first year we've gotten it at the upgrade only charge though, we've paid full price every other time. It's worth it for us. 10 days of wonderful Disney eateries can't be beat! We do an 8am breakfast each morning, anywhere from 1-2pm lunch, and 8-9pm dinner. The breaks are nice with two kids and we do lots of character meals and some signatures too!

DH loves to eat so we do the DxDP, plus I had pancreatitis a couple of years ago and I can't do fries every day now. Finally, the best part is that, since we have to go during the summer, it's nice to have that midday break.

Yeah, we did the math and it saves us A LOT if you book quality places. It gives us the ability for a character breakfast and a signature every day, App/Entree/Dessert for each person. Or if not signature/dinner show, we have each meal covered with the 3 plates each meal.

It's definitely worth it if you have a day like;

Tusker House Char. Breakfast Buffet
California Grill
2 Snacks - Usable for a lot of things in world showcase

Tusker House Char. Breakfast Buffet
Via Napolli
Coral Reef

For California Grill and other signatures, it's EASY to hit $145 with the 6% tax for TWO people. We looked through the menus tonight for example and were at $145.22 and $160.46 between California Grill and Yachtsman Steakhouse. There's $305 right there on two meals, if you add in a character breakfast for two of those days, now your at $425 for two people at 2 signatures and 2 character breakfasts.

I agree - very easy to get your money's worth!!

We will be eating for 10 days on our upcoming trip. We are paying full price for the DxDDP for two nights and the upgrade price between free regular dining and the DxDDP for seven nights.

Our total cost is right at $970 plus $500 in gratuities and OOP meals (we pay OOP for CSR and one other meal). Total of $1470. I used an amazing spreadsheet I found on the DIS, plugged in all our meals and the cost of what we'd order and it gave me an estimate of $1900 with gratuities. Breaks down to a savings of just over $1500 which is 51% savings!

So for $970 plus tips, 2 adults and 2 children can eat for 10 days at the following places getting an entire buffet or appetizer/entree/dessert/drink per person:

Breakfast
Crystal Palace
Hollywood and Vine
Akershus
Tusker House
Chef Mickey's
1900 Park Fare
Kouzzina
Kona Cafe

Lunch
Sanaa
Be Our Guest
Starring Rolls
Coral Reef
Yak and Yeti
Whispering Canyon Cafe
Earl of Sandwich
Cinderella's Royal Table
Les Chefs de France

Dinner
Narcoossee
Ragland Road
50's Prime Time Cafe
Cape May Cafe
Via Napoli
Whispering Canyon Cafe
1900 Park Fare
Ohana
California Grill
Boma

It's such a great value. For the upgraded price of $51 for an adult, here's an example of one of our better days:

Breakfast: Chef Mickey's. Buffet. $30.88

Lunch: Chefs de France. Cheese plate, Salmon, Creme Brulee. $48.49

Dinner: Narcoossee. Crab Cakes, Surf/Turf, Almond Cheesecake. $100.07

OOP cost would be $179.43

Even on our "cheaper" days we come out ahead!

Breakfast: Tonga Toast, Coffee, Juice. $21.37

Lunch: Chicken, Drink, Gelato $16.91

Dinner: Boma. Buffet. $35.14

OOP cost would be $79.42

There are a few instances where you can get an appetizer on the regular dining plan - fixed price meals, special fixed price menus at some restaurants, the Fantasmic or Candlelight Processional dining packages.

The DxDP WAS potentially a good deal with significant savings.
While going forward in 2013, you can still save... The savings are much more marginal.
Using the example above -- 2013 DxDP will run 2 people $400-$412 for 2 nights. (depending on peak pricing).
So the potential savings in your example, only about 5%. Ok, you can throw in snacks, but I can barely get through half our family snacks. So even with snacks, you're only talking about 10% savings.

The DxDP was a good deal where you could save 10-20% without even trying, and over 30% by working it. With the HUGE price increase in 2013, you really need to work the plan, just to get 10-15% in savings.
