I voted hot, but there is one exception. When I order toast in a restaurant (rarely happens) I try to remember to order it plain. I get grossed out when there is too much butter - and everyone seems to slather it on.

I've never heard of a restaurant that butters your toast, or bread for that matter, before! :eek:

Really? The only time I've had toast at a restaurant is breakfast at family places like Denny's etc. They always bring it already buttered with a little selection of jams. Bread always comes plain with butter on the side, but in my experience toast comes buttered. I think that is standard in the US.

Yes, really! ::yes::

Perhaps it's more common in the UK & rest of Europe but I did have some unbuttered in the GF too!

I have only ever been given dry, unbuttered toast, a selection of jams/marmalades, and either a small pot of butter or those little containers of butter/margerine spread.

I haven't ever had breakfast in Denny's though so will be prepared if I ever do! :)

I butter my toast after it comes out of the toaster. DH on the other hand, butters his bread & then puts it in the toaster oven.

So, we have a toaster for me & the toaster oven for him. Good thing we've got lots of counter space!
