Do you split or wait for the whole stay?

If you are trying to get into a non-home resort, and you really want to change and you plan to call day by day. The first day is available, great, next day, or maybe the next day, no. You have already given up your home to try the new place. Do you try to go back to your original the first day, or do you waitlist and continue to call day by day? Has this happened to you? What did you decide to do? I'm talking about during the summer time, but it has to be a particular week as I'll be between sessions. Ideally, one would have enough points for both ressies, but anything that's done, is being done with borrowed points.

We have always waited to book a non home resort on the day that all days were available to book. But I see that people are calling 7 months day by day and I'm just wondering.

I try to wait to book until I can book all the days if possible since we hate to move. I don't want to cancel my other reservation without knowing for sure I can get the new location. I think it helps reduce our overhead in dues paid toward member services by waiting, as well. If everyone called "day-by-day", I think our costs would climb accordingly due to the extra work caused by that strategy for member services.

I reserve at my home resort at 11 months out when I can, day by day if I think I may need to like BWV BW or SV. Then at 7 months out I call day by day if I want to change. I keep the original reservation at least until I know I have the new one completed. Once my portfolio size drops, I'm sure I'll approach it a little differently. I've even booked multiples resorts at the 7 month window for a 2-3 days until I knew what was truly going to work out, then cancelled what I didn't need. But it takes a number of points for these type of approaches. For those that have less, they may want to book the new resort day and cancel at the old one each day. That way you know you have a place to stay and at most, will only have to move once. Then if you don't get the new option, you can reconsider. Since this is frequently done from SSR/OKW points, one can always try to get back to your original position at one of those resorts.
