Do you sneak food into the movie theater?

We really never went to the movies that much so when we did the popcorn and candy we bought there was just part of the experience and expense. :)

I usually bring in some non GMO popcorn. I can't deal with the heavy salted popcorn they sell at the theater. I have, at times, brought in some other kind of healthy snack but we usually buy waters. My DH still buys the big ol' bucket of popcorn.

No, too much bother it's easier to buy it there. I like popcorn and pizza and couldn't imagine sneaking that in.
Apparently my oldest daughter and one of her friends sneaked in 2! pizzas! they put the slices in ziplocs-they went with a large group of friends and shared the pizzas around. They did buy sodas there though.

We will bring candy but I have got to have my movie theatre popcorn:)

Honestly, it's not so much the high prices, as it is the selection. Our theater has such limited choices: popcorn, candy, slushies, water, Vitamin Water, & fountain drinks. Aside from the fountain drinks & the Vitamin Water, I really don't crave any of that to watch a movie. I wish our theater sold hot pretzels or dinner food or appetizers or trail mix-that's the stuff I would like to munch on while watching a movie. I'm dying to go to that "dine-in" movie theater that they have in Downtown Disney. We have one theater that is similar to that place, but they don't show new movies-mostly classics & independent films

I sneak in food but only to bribe the unruly children with ;)

I've been to it several times. The problem I found is that once the show starts ya can't see your food, at all.

I usually bring a bottle of water, as long as it's cheaper to buy a 24 pack at the grocery store than to buy 1 bottle at the theater I will continue to do so. I sometimes bring a piece of fruit as well. I know people who bring in food from fast food places like Taco Bell and Panda Express.

So let's see; I just went to see Mad Max. They charged me $6.25 for a large Coca-Cola Icee ($1.79 at the local 7-11), and each box of candy was about $4 for a portion size half of what CVS/Walgreens charges $1-$1.50 for.

I decided years ago that I had zero guilt about smuggling candy in. There's making a profit, there's blatant overcharging and then there's obscene gouging. I put most movie theatres in the last category. When they decide to only overcharge me by a couple of bucks instead of $5-10 on top of my movie ticket, I'll resume buying candy in the theatre. Until then, pants with baggy pockets rule!

No. This is because I don't go to the theater, I built one at home. I bet there are people in this thread who admit to sneaking food into movies who gave me grief in a previous thread for suggesting that I might try to get a 10 year old into DLR on the child's ticket lol. You people are funny.

Until they start stocking something that kids with braces can eat, yes, we often do. One of the kids can't have gummies, popcorn, caramel, etc. So we bring something snacky in for him, and buy the drinks and popcorn for the rest of us there. And when going to the movies was a bigger hit to our budget than it is now, yes, we would often take food in.

Unfortunately, that's a self-perpetuating cycle. They charge a lot, so people sneak food in, so they charge more. Yuck.

You can use the same argument for what many people would try to save costs at Disney and get BLASTED for here...

* Buying a single meal and filling up multiple people from the 'fixings bar'
* Saying a child is under 'x' age to get the cheaper ticket
* Parking at a resort (when not an on site guest) for free parking

We bring in candy. Drinks can go either way--last time I bought as I have a smallish purse.

I buy popcorn at the theater, and I buy my own small. Like Joey on Friends, I don't share food (well, that's only true for popcorn, lol). Every time, I have to explain to the person selling that I don't care if two smalls cost more than one large. I don't want to eat out of a bucket and I don't want other people reaching over to grab handfuls all through the movie.

No. we usually will eat out before or after the movie anyways so we skip concession or I get the kids the passes from Costco that come with a kids combo.

I worked at our local AMC one summer in college (maybe 5 years ago?) and one of our managers insisted we were to inspect every patron's bag as they came in and confiscate food or drinks.... yeah, no. No one did that. (She also said it was illegal if we sold R-rated tickets to anyone under 17... nope, not illegal) If they were carrying an iced coffee or something we asked them to please finish it before they went into the theater, but we never took anyone's food if they brought it in... I just went to that theater last week (there's a whole new staff and they recently remodeled and it's SUPER nice with a bar and everything) and my mother and I bought popcorn and a drink (and they have those Coke Freestyle machines now so we have a ton of drink choices). But we do sometimes bring in our own candy as usually we go to a different theater that's closer to our house, but almost always buy a popcorn and a drink.

You're not over that yet?

I have at times brought in candy - but I usually just buy popcorn and bottled water.
