I still do, but I think I'm a vanishing breed. I might even skip it this trip. I just don't think people care about receiving postcards anymore.

What do you do, or not do? :)

We don't send them every trip , but we do send them occasionally. We send them to our Grandchilren and work most of the time. Most of the other people that we would send them to also go to Disney often. If they're not already with us.

Funny you should ask this. Just today my kids received a postcard from Disney from our friends from church. I had helped them w/their planning since I'm the uber planner in our family. They were thanking us for the help and said they ran into Mickey Mouse and he said he was anxious to see us in January. The boys thought this was awesome! We always send postcards and we LOVE  getting them ourselves. I say keep sending them, but you're right, it is a dying "art".

If you send them from a Disney resort or park do they have a special postmark or is it just "Orlando"?

Thanks.

Not so much anymore. I think your observation is correct. We've been so many times I think our friends/family are like "ho-hum" when they even know we are going again let alone getting another postcard. But...we still like to send them although, we don't so much anymore!

Because most of our friends and family have computers now, we send
e-postcards from Disney instead of regular postcards. Let's everybody see that we are having fun and also makes them wish they were with us!! :rotfl: pixiedust:

Kind of a goofy thing to do but -- send a postcard to your own family on one of the last days of your trip. "Here we are, Sally had 4 pancakes just now and we're off to Space Mountain" kind of thing. It's really fun to receive a card a few days after you're home, sort of brings it all back for a moment.

We go four times a year now, and still send someone a postcard while we're there...usually to the family member/friend who is coming with us the next time! Hope it gets them hyped for their turn to visit "The World" with us! Also, DH buys enough postcards to bring home and send to our next guests, to our home away from home (DVC members....one trip by ourselves, next trip with members of our family, next trip by ourselves, next trip with friends!) to remind them of how many days til they get to WDW!!!!! We provide the housing, they pay for their transportation, tickets, and food!

It's postmarked "Lake Buena Vista". :sunny:

i always send a few postcards - but i don't write anything on them ;) what i do is take the postcard to the favorite character of whoever i am sending them to, and have them sign it. my best friend at home loves belle, so i had belle sign a postcard for her and dropped it in the mail. this time she'll be getting one from cinderella. my parents are joining me on my summer trip to the world, so i'm hoping to get mickey to sign a postcard for them saying "see ya real soon!" :teeth:

i also love to have characters sign a postcard that i'll drop in the mail and send to someone who has no idea i'm in disneyworld. like casual friends that i only see every few weeks or so, that won't know or remember that i'm on vacation. my friend ellis will be getting a postcard from his favorites, chip and dale, next week. i crack up at the idea of one of my friends opening their mailbox to a completely unexpected greeting from their favorite cartoon character :rotfl: maybe i'm just weird! :p

We haven't sent postcards the last few times, but we are going to do so this time. Besides being a Fairy Godmailer to some special little ones whose parents are here on the DIS, we have several neighbors that actually ASKED for post cards!! We're also sending them to some of DS's friends because he promised. I think it will be fun!!

I love to get postcards myself. It's a heck of a lot better than bills and junk. But I always get the feeling that the postcards I SEND are thrown in the trash before they're even read. :rotfl:

I sent postcards to all 21 of my second graders this years. They were all very excited to get back to school and tell me they had received their postcards. They enjoyed comparing who got what character. - I had made address and message labels before we left home to save time.

I am planning to do the 'paying it forward' thing and one woman told me that on main street, there is a mail box, and if you use this one, it will have WDW post mark...will be asking a CM in Magic Kingdom about this one.

I also bought the Disney stamps...I know they aren't post card stamps but I would rather pay alittle more and have a Disney stamp on the cards I send out to the little kids. Will save the ugly butterfly ones for others...

The only post cards I will be sending will be work and my DH, since he isn't going. (his choice) I wouldn't know who else to send one to. My daughter who is 15, now she has quite a list...wonder who is going to be buying all those post cards...??

We send them to family and this year will be doing the paying it foward/fairy godmailer too. :) It is so special.

I personally wish I could get a Disney post card in the mail every day leading up to our trip.. :rotfl: I love to put them on the fridge ..well my 3 year old does this part and then we all enjoy looking at them every day. Plus i just love post cards. I never buy any for ourselves while we are there so the only time we get them is when we are sent one. Last year we got 3 before our trip and then one since then so we have 4 of them. I want to get enough to eventually do a small album with when we take them off the fridge. ;)

I think it is great people still send them.

Another fun thing to do with postcards is to drop them in the actual mailboxes found along Main Street or in World Showcase, and include a note saying as so on them. Friends back home love this.

I also love the way WDW words the message on the mailbox along the lines of mail placed here will be picked up daily by cast members and given to members of the US Postal Service. It really does reaffirm you're currently away from the real world, and this is a link to it.

I still love getting postcards!

The e-postcard from Mission Space is really cool too. You have got to do that! There is a kiosk type area as you leave the ride and you can send really fun e-mails for free. We did the one where it puts your face in a space suit on the moon. Really cute! We saved it for a month and looked at it often. :thumbsup2 :cool1: :woohoo:

2 years ago when we went my daughter loved sending post cards to her friends. However one of the mothers made a comment on how dumb it was that she recieved it after we were already back. :snooty: We mailed it in the mailboxes at the ASMo. I have to say they were really slow to get them out but I thought the comment was rather rude.

Anyway I thought I'd share that with you guys but anyway I'd send them. Most people will enjoy them and the few that don't it doesn't matter because you'll enjoy it. Its fun to pick them out and write them so I say do it and spread some Disney magic!

I send postcards, but they always get to their destination after I get home. So my mom told me that when she used to take us, she would address a bunch of envelopes before she left and then put the postcards inside them. She said that envelopes get delivered faster than postcards - so I'm going to try that this year. :thumbsup2

I had the same problem when I mailed them from ASMo. My husband didn't go with us so we mailed him one the first morning there. We were home for days before it arrived. I thought it got lost in the mail. Next time I'll try the box on main street.
