Do you save twoonies and loonies for Disney?

I was following a thread on the Budget board about saving change and thought if I only saved our pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters, it wouldn't amount to much. I find it really hard to save twoonies and loonies as I always pay for small purchases with them. Do you guys save them for something special, or do you spend them at Tim Horton's like my DH does every day?

When we're saving for something special, like our trip to WDW a couple of years ago, we save loonies and twoonies. They add up very quickly. We find that if you put them someplace different than the rest of your change, you tend to forget about them, and then we empty them out every night and put them in our "loonie" bank. We saved several hundred $ within a month or 2 the last time we did it.

I empty out my pockets every couple of days and dump my change into one of those mechanical coin banks (I forget what it's called) which sorts them. Radio Shack sells them. Once we've got enough for a roll I wrap them and put them away into a drawer. For our last trip this past New Year's, we had over $400 in change in about 18 months of saving. Since then, we're up to about $75 but I haven't been as diligent recently. Given that I don't drink coffee, it's not a problem whatsoever to avoid the 2 Timmy's I pass on my way to work. :)

We're hoping the next stay will be a less expensive one. We'll be getting a second trip out of our APs, staying at BWV on points thru DVC (with a few extra days at another resort we'll have to pay for), and driving instead of flying and renting a car. Of course, I fully expect any savings will disappear given that it will be easier for certain people to make additional purchases and transport the stuff home in the van. When we're flying I can always say, "Oh, that will break/never fit on the plane". Not this time, sigh... :(

Every day at the end of my shift, I put whatever change I have in my pockets into an empty 4 litre plastic bottle. I used a 1 litre bottle last time and was shocked when I finally cut it open to find over 700 dollars in there!!! It went right on our AKL bill for this coming December. Can't wait to open up that 4 litre bottle come November and see how much is in there.

And you would not believe how fast all of that change does add up. It sure makes a difference. I don't miss the change, and I only buy things with cash. In fact, I have gotten so crazy about saving my change that I make sure that if I buy something, I never use exact change, just bills, so I will get change for my disney fund. I saved over $600 in change in 3 months. It sure does make a difference.

I started saving loonies in one of those bear shaped glass peanut butter jars with the slot in the lid. I am only just passed his knees and its already up to $170! ( Mind you when you convert it to US$ it s like being back down to his ankles- LOL ) :D

I agree, all of the change really adds up!
I have been saving twoonies since last August, and I have saved about $500 so far. :)

I've been saving my toonies since last Nov. (but for our wedding not Disney.) I have over $800 right now, (closer to 900). IMHO it's money that you don't miss. It's a cup of coffee or a donut. I totally recommend savin gyour change it really adds up.
