Do you save for other things besides Disney?

We save all year for a nice trip to WDW, and we have no debt, BUT other than retirement and an annual Christmas fund, we don't save very much for anything else.

Family members think we're too frivalous "wasting" our money on Disney every year. Anybody else have trouble saving for other things?

You are too saving, just something different, you are saving up the precious memories of family time together. :thumbsup2 I think this is very important too. I have friends that save every penny that they can and do very little in the way of vacations, etc. and sometimes I think what are you saving it for when you can't take it with you?

However, I think if you have something else specific that you need to save for just having the need may be enough to help you motivate yourself to start saving for that too.

One small way to start saving money is to use a change jar. Or to have a small amount put right in a savings account from your paycheck.

It is amazing to me how I still let my family make me feel guilty about my own money sometimes. And I am 42 years old.

We are SO alike! I'm 41 and my mom (who does NOT see the importance of vacations) is always worrying that I'm spending too much on Disney and not saving for other things. We too, have a big change jar and a savings account where money is deducted from my paycheck...but that all goes to Disney too! :rolleyes1

Wish we did save for something else :rotfl: everything I want & my DH wants is disney he loves our trips to WDw & DCL when not putting it on disney trips we do buy either paintings , porcelains figurines , christmas ornements ..... all disney ....... :confused3 Who knew that a simple trip to WDW in 2002 would do that ....creating the most disneycrazy people around these parts
But it does makes us happy so that counts .

Oh my gosh...that's what happened to us too! DH had a business meeting in Orlando in 2005, so I thought DD and I would tag along...you know...just for 3 or 4 days, stay offsite, and maybe just go to MK. WELL....that trip turned into 10 days. At the Contemporary. With premium park hoppers! :rotfl2: We've never looked back and we plan on going every year. :thumbsup2

I really hope that happens to my DH. He's never been to Disney (what was wrong with his parents?), but we are going next month. I know he thinks I'm crazy since I'm soooo obsessed with Disney, but I am really hoping that after our trip he will be as crazed about it as I am! Please tell me it's possible!!!

We save for retirement. Next year, when DD#2 goes to kindergarten and I can work more, we'll save for college. We also save monthly for a new car. We don't have any particular car in mind and we don't know when we'll be buying one, but we like to pay cash, so we make a monthly "car payment" to ourselves so we'll have the money when the time comes.
