Do you remember, way back when...

Mrs. Burke?!! I thought you were Dale!

Mom made Shake-n-Bake, and I halped.

Loved Fred Farkle and Ferd Burfel, and all the Farkle kids who looked like Ferd.
"I'm Simon." " I'm Gar." "We're Farkles!"

(It is Oregon that's the other no self serve gas)

In the mornings before going to school when we still lived in Toronto I watched a show called Rocketship 7. I believe it came in on a feed from Buffalo, but we also watched Romper Room, Friendly Giant, Chez Helene, Mr. Dress-up.

I watched Romper Room, the Friendly Giant, Chez Helene, and Mr. Dress-up. I was heartbroken when he died years ago. Do you remember "La Souris Verte"? I grew up in Ottawa. We too would ride around in the trunk of the station wagon - :scared1:

Lots of good memories here. I remember getting our first TV. You'd be surprised how many people would actually sit and stare at the test pattern after the programming went off for the night... I'd probably be surprised at how many younger folks don't have a clue what a test pattern is. Well, it goes back to the dark ages when families had only one TV in the whole house and parents actually decided what everyone would watch... imagine that! :upsidedow

I worked at that gas station. Filled up your car, checked tires, washed your windows and got a nickle for a tip (sometimes). Charged $.25 to fix a flat using tire irons and no tip most of the time.

"Plop, plop fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is!"

"Meathead!"

"Stifle!"

Just before the test pattern I remember several things they'd play at different times. One was the poem "High Flight" by John Magee. It's a touching poem. I think one station used to play Ringo's "Now It's Time to Say Goodnight" and of course the national anthem with the picture of the American flag fluttering in the wind.

you (or your parents) pulling into a gas station, the attendant would come up to your window and ask how much? After he'd start the pump, he'd open the hood, take out a slightly dirty white rag from his back pants pocket, pull out the oil stick, wipe it on the cloth, put it back in & pull it out again and let you (or Dad) know if your oil was low. Then he would grab a squeegee and wash & dry your windshield and back window. After that was done, he'd tell you how much the gas costs, wish you a good day & off you'd go.

Do you remember "Where's the beef?" "I can't believe I ate the whole thing." "Thatsa speecy, spicy meatball."

Well I'm still able to find a few places that will pump gas for me, but no more checking the oil, washing the windshield, etc..:goodvibes

I remember most of those things. Remember when McDonald's brought out the Big Mac and trying to learn the song and being able to say it as fast as the commercial?

"Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun"

Wax lips, penny candy, candy cigarettes, bunny rabbit and Mr. Moose on Captain Kangaroo, the Magic Mirror on Romper Room, Klick-Klacks and how they were pulled because people got hurt with them?

I always had to watch the Lawerence Welk Show and Hee Haw at my grandparents house.

I can still remember some of Hee Haw:

"Where o where are you tonight? Why did you leave me here all alone? I searched the world over and thought I found true love. You met another and pfft you were gone."

Now how sad is that?!

Also you can't forget, I'm pickin' and I'm grinin'

That brought back a memory of early Capt. Kangaroo shows when he used to have the Banana Man. He would come out with a box and a large overcoat and proceed to make a train from the box(es) and fill it with stuff he took out of his pockets. Every time he took some large item out of his pockets he would say, "W o w", in a high falsetto voice. Loved that part.
