It looks like the Paramount has revamped the ride that was replaced by Jimmy Neutron at Universal.

New Hanna Barbera Attraction Debuts at Paramount's Kings Dominion

Theme park adventure rockets guests through The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera.

DOSWELL, Va.—Classic animated characters from cartoons such as The Flintstones, The Jetsons and Scooby-Doo take a starring role in The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera, the new Hollywood attraction at Paramount’s Kings Dominion that takes guests on an unforgettably fun family adventure in the Paramount Action FX Theatre.

When villainous Dick Dastardly and his sidekick dog Muttley kidnap Elroy Jetson, park guests are in for a wild ride. Attraction-goers help Yogi Bear rescue Elroy as he dashes through Bedrock, Jetson City and Scooby-Doo’s Haunted Castle. Guests will fly, drive, and dive with Yogi Bear while sitting in seats that are synchronized to move with the action on the screen.

The adventure takes place in Kings Dominion’s Action FX Theatre. The Action FX Theatre is a 13,000 square-foot building holding two, four level terrace theatres. The unique two-person seats are set on motion bases that allow for a wide range of movement that is fully in sync with the action coming from the 26 feet by 59 feet screen. In addition, the theatre’s digital-based six channel audio system provides high quality surround sound to fully immerse guests in the story.

The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera will debut at all five Paramount theme parks this summer. For fans that prefer to watch the show without the motion, stationary seats are available in the theatre. Guests must be 44 inches tall to experience the motion seats. There is no minimum height requirement for the stationary seats. Locally, The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera will be ready to entertain guests when Paramount's Kings Dominion opens for the season on Saturday, April 1. " Info from www.anmpkd.com

Looking forward to it. Hope it's as good as the original. :bounce:

I do remember the ride and I do miss it. Its the whole nostalgia thing. Paramount's Kings Dominion, is this in PA? Sounds like it would be fun to give it a try!

Wow, yeah, I remember it!

What happened there, do they sell off these rides??? I guess I'm just kinda dumb there...

I was bummed when they took that ride out but if you think about it the kids now had no idea who anyone was on that ride ( the jetsons, the flintstones, etc) man I miss those cartoosns.

Paramount's King's Dominion is in Doswell, Virginia 30 min from Richmond, Va. You where probably thinking of Hershey, knoebels, kennywood or dorney park which are all in PA!

The show is going to be at all 5 Paramount's parks.

Great America
Santa Clara, CA

Carowinds
Charlotte, NC

Kings Island
Mason, OH

King's Dominion
Doswell, VA

Canada's Wonderland
Maple, ON

And I wouldn't say its being revamped.

Basically they're just taking the movie and the motions of the vehicles and programming them into existing theaters at the paramount parks. It'll be the same exact ride that was at Universal except the preshow video will probably be shown outside and the ride vehicles will not be themed.

that's exactly what they do. the 'new' 3D movie at BG -Pirates- has been around for a few years. coasters are dismantled and sold to other parks. Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom recently rebuilt the old Tidal Wave ride from Six Flags Great America. if no one wants to purchase them, they're eventually scrapped.

Sounds great. We are going back to Kings Dominion this year, we love that park, and it will be something else new for us. (even though we rode it back in 1993 at Universal) Kings Dominion is in the northern part of Virginia for anyone wondering.

HEY!! We're going back to KD for the first time in like 10 years!! What a coincidence!! Last/first time we were at US (14 yrs. ago) it was one of the first rides we rode (BIL said it was a good warm-up to BTTF). Wow!! Does anyone know if it is replacing anything at KD or a new thing entirely???

If it is where I think it is at Carowinds, the theatre set up is different than in Universal. There are individual seats at Carowinds, not the bench seats/spaceships. I'll be going to Carowinds over the next few weeks--i'll have to see how it compares. I assume it is replacing the Spongebob action ride, which replaced another action ride.

Ya think KD would replace Spongebob with Hanna Barbera??? Spongebob is so much more popular today and I think more kids know SBob moreso than the "old days" :rolleyes1 of Hanna Barbera.....

UGHHH I remember it well.

We were stuck on that ride for 45 minutes due to a malfunction. After riding it it made me sick. Can't say I miss it. I think the JN theme is the same ride just different movie.

I'll pass :)

Thanks, Bean! :thumbsup2 I guess I was aware of coasters being sold off and such, but I never thought about things like this!

Gee, I wonder if Kongfrontation will end up somewhere! :teeth: :rolleyes1

K.D. has two theatres with motion seats I believe. When we were there on other trips, Sponge Bob was in one while a Nascar movie was in the other theatre, and an Indiana Jones type another trip.

I remember the NASCAR one at KD in VA, but not the other theatre.

Carowinds is running Spongebob in one theatre and has the other theatre slated for Hanna Barbera, but they weren't running it on Saturday (maybe it's not ready yet).

To fully answer a previous question, all the Paramount parks have the Paramount Action F/X theatre. They debuted with Days of Thunder (the aforementioned Nascar one), then went on to feature a 007 film, a comic booky one (Seventh Portal), and a few others. The ride should be pretty close to how it was at Universal, though they may always change up the programming.

I find it really odd that Paramount went this way right after they dumped all the Hanna Barbera stuff (at least at Carowinds). The entire area and all the related attractions were rethemed to Nickelodeon, so it seems strange to now have a Hanna Barbera motion simulator.
