We recycle. We have free curbside pick up for recycling. We do not need to separate glass, plastic or cans, only paper. We pay $2.00 each for a 30 gallon city trash bag (trash won't be picked up if not in the bag), so that is definitely an added incentive. I only wish our town would recycle more than #1 and 2 plastics.

When we remodeled our kitchen, I had a 4-bin recycling cabinet installed, like this:

Our trash people stopped our curbside recycling several years ago, but with these bins, I just separate out the glass, tin, and plastic. Then I grab our newspapers and cardboard, and about every week or so, I load all them into the car and take them with me when I go grocery shopping. The parking lot has large collection bins, and it is easy to dump the sorted recyclables.

I never used to recycle ... but I have been shown the light. I really do not like creating a lot of garbage, so I recylcle everything I can: glass, plastic, aluminum, cardboard, mixed paper, cereal boxes, and egg cartons. I am also getting selective on what I buy. For instance, I will not buy coffee at Dunkin Donuts because of their styrofoam coffee cups.

We do! Its sort of a new thing for us this past year. My city makes it especially difficult, I am sure more people would participate if they made it more accessible. But we do the best we can with what we have.

We had to purchase the bins from the city, they WILL not accept any other containers, even if they are marked clearly

We separate plastic bottles, paper, and cardboard. The cardboard must be cut into 12 by 12 inch squares and bundled in a certain size, DF handles all of this. We turn cans in at the supermarket for cash.

They pick things up on a rotation so we have to look at the paper each week to see what they are getting this week, and its not easy to follow, they skip weeks sometimes and other times they get something two weeks in a row, then it builds up for awhile.

We thought about this one too, but our city went to single-sort recycling (everything in one bin) so we opted for the double bin cabinet instead. I wish all places would make recycling more efficient and user friendly.

Our apartment doesn't have recycling but they let this homeless guy come in and sort the trash and he gets to keep all he takes.

Yes, our county provides us with a bin for plastic, glass, and metal containers; and then another large trash type can for paper....they pick-up weekly....I love it when our bins are full....it means we've really been decluttering our house....we can also bundle our yard debris for pick-up however most of the time we just throw it over the fence to the wooden area and let it decompose there and we grasscycle so our lawn looks really good.

I separate paper, cardboard, plastic and cans. Our city picks up recycling every other week, which is nice. When we remodel our kitchen, I will put in a recycling containers like pictured above. Can't wait!


We also have a compost at the back of our yard. I mostly put leaves and grass cuttings there.

cardboard, mail, magazines, anything paper in 1 bin. Plastics, glass and metal in another. I want to get a compost barrel and a rain barrel this summer. We use biodegradable trash bags, reusable shopping bags, and crocheted vegetable bags.

We are fighting an ash dump in our town. Ash is the waste from the trash to energy plant. All those metal cans and what not that you toss into the garbage go into that plant, melt, and form highly toxic waste. They want to put it on an aquifer that feeds the wells of 3 towns and has fresh water Salmon. When the rain water runs off the ash it poisons the water and ground. It's made a lot of people in this town go very green, very fast.

I mostly recycle, the only thing stopping me is my town and what they recycle. I also bring my own bags grocery shopping and have started bringing them to every shopping trip so I don't have a bunch of plastic bags. Walking around the mall, I ahve about 3 bags inside my decorative canvas bag and hand them to the stores to fill instead of a plastic bag from them.

Of course!! I believe (could be wrong) that NJ Law mandates that all municipalities recycle. We have both curbside pickup and a recycling center in our town -- we recycle more than we throw away.

Yes, we do. We have 3 bins we measured to make sure they fit side by side in the back of the minivan. We drive to a drop off center once a week (twice a month in the winter).

One bin for clear plastics, one for opaque plastics, and one for newspapers. We also have a box for cardboard and a bag for tin cans and aluminum.

Recylcing is very sexy.
