Do you REALLY need your CELLPHONE at WDW?

Another vote for using cell phones! I took mine with me on my trip in October, and it was truly invaluable for our group of four adults to have our phones with us. It allowed us to split up and do different things, then get back together easily. I have never been a "cell phone person," but loved the convenience of having it at DW! We all used them several times a day, and I'd never go on vacation without it again.

I understand your point of view, though - I use my cell phone very seldom at home (maybe once or twice a week) and do not generally leave it turned on all the time. Since you use yours all day long for your business, it certainly makes sense that you want to get away from it on your vacation. Everyone uses them differently, so I say, "To each his/her own!"

I can think of several reasons to HAVE my phone while on vacation. But not very many reason as to why I need to have it ON.

I totally agree!! I'm going to bring my cell phone just to use at the hotel if we want to call our family back home to say hi or something, but I definitely won't be taking it to the parks with us!

I *always* have mine in the parks. I keep it turned off, but I have it in case DD gets lost. I know there's a place in each park to be reunited with lost children, but the peace of mind of getting a call that says "We found your daughter, she's safe, and we'll meet you at Town Hall." is better for me than a mad dash to Town Hall *wondering* if she's been found and will be there.......

I would turn the phone on if I lost her. Other than that, it's off except for maybe once or twice a day at the hotel or sitting on a bench when I want to check messages or DD wants to call Nana and Pop as she's getting ready for bed. Because I have it only for those specific purposes, I have no need to turn it on in the parks, but that's our personal situation. YMMV :)

we take our cell phones on our trips, but when we go into the park we dont have them, most of them they are in the car. I think i did take my into sea world last year, but it was in my camera bag and i forgot all about it lol

Well sadly, I have a dang good reason that I had my cell with me and on the last trip we took. My mom was ill and fading fast so with the urging of all of my sibs we took our trip anyway, but had the cell with us in case they needed to call.

I understand the whole get away from your job philosophy but unfortunately I have also taken it for work. I am a Realtor and while I always hvae someone to cover my files, I have on occassion had my coworker contact me to clarify an issue. One of those saved a closing which brought me $11,000 so yeah, that ten minute phone call was worth it even though I had to sit on a bench in FantasyLand to take care of it. Heck, DH bought the kids popcorn and we watched the ducks in the pond. They were perfectly happy and the deal didn't go under.

Now would I ignore my kids to take unlimited work related calls? No, but sometimes life just happens.

I had read on the boards a suggestion to bring walkie talkies to keep in touch when your party is separated. DH didn't think it was necessary as we'd likely always be together, but with someone leaving to get food or FP (likely him), and rides that only he wants to go on, I'm thinking I would want to be able to get in touch with him.

I asked him last night if our cell phones would be a better option for keeping in touch, since they're smaller and we can call each other for free...though not sure if the 'free' part is still the case out of state. He said yes, so we'll bring the phones, skip the walkie talkies.

DH is a workaholic, though, so I'm hoping he will not be keeping it on all the time and answering calls! Like the OP said, we're paying a lot of money for this, so let's make the most of it!!!
