Hi I am new to the DIS boards! Alot of great info here. My family and I are going on our first WDW vacation this Oct. Should we purchase trip insurance? Hurricane season seems active this year and is predicited to go long..does trip insurance cover this? Thanks for any and all info!

Hurricane season or not its always a good idea to have insurance. Ask them about whether or not you would be covered in that event (most likely) and if they say no, ask to tack on a rider. They will do it cheap and sometimes free.

Maybe its just me, both my parents were insurance agents and I was one for a while too, so I never do anything without it, especially trips (I even insured my wedding). :goodvibes

Honestly, probably nothing bad will happen though! :Pinkbounc

I always take out trip and medical insurance. I recently cruised and got sick. After turning in my medical bills to the ins. co. they paid right away. Lots of forms and communication to deal with, but it was worth it.

But then there were times when I didn't use it.

So it is just up to you and your family whether you should have it or not.

I would say yes!

We did purcharse one for our trip, you never know if you or your family get sick or hurt!

Hello all...I myself am a newbie to these boards and was also thinking about trip insurance when I got here...however, being the cheapskate that I am...I'm thinking of booking my room only in order to get my AAA discount and then booking my tickets, etc. later...BUT - even if I don't do that and go with the whole package YET book my own air...does anyone know how trip insurance would work in that case? I know WDW's website offers it and you can get it on line thru other resources, but I guess my question is how does booking components of your trip separately affect insurance?

Anyone know? Thanks!!!

I have never purchased trip insurance for my WDW trips, but recently did for the DCL Cruise. I learned of the need to on this board. (thanks DISers!)

Not sure if I will in the future for WDW visits, but will probably check into when I plan my next visit.

You know, insurance is not one of those things you think of...until you need it! ha!

I took the insurance out for my May cruise and used it for medical and luggage problems. The medical portion is very cheap. When I filed the claims, the check was sent out very quickly. Very much worth it.

My TA told me of a cruise she took and her cruisemate fell while on an excursion and broke her foot and there was no medical care where they were so she had to be flown back to the states, etc......she said for the small amount it is, she would NEVER go without it again after that.

You don't want those things to happen while on vacation, but they do!

and another thing, don't think that because you are hurt on a Disney ship, that they have to pay for your medical bills, if you fall or get hurt. That is not true. So if you are a clutz or an accident waiting to happen, you should take out insurance. I have a sister that is an accident whereever she goes - if you are reading this, I  you.............
