the Obituaries ?

I try to read them once a week and look back to see if anyone I knew died, but havent got around to it for a few months

Sadly, yes..I say sadly because we used to make fun of my mom for doing the same thing!

yep when your a kid its a morbid thing, but you need to know if people died, i often see causal acquaintance in there, and think back to my memory of them

No. I'm always afraid I'll see my name. ;)

Seriously, I now live far from my home state, have to rely on word-of-mouth.

No. And we don't get the paper.
However, I do go on the hospital's virtual baby nursery every few months to check out the baby names. :crazy2:

I try to always catch (as my granny used to say), the "hatched, matched, mis-matched and the OB's.". Translated, that is the births, engagements, divorces (which nobody does anymore) and the obituaries. Grannies way made it sound more fun!

you could try that new thingy, called the internet and check out your home town newspaper :rotfl:

Every single day. You know that thread about Dis'ing at work that morphed into a debate about workplace internet usage? Let's just say if anybody is tracking my on-line activity they will wonder about my morbid curiosity - obits are the first thing I google in the morning! It's a throw back from many years ago when I interned as a funeral director; I'm actually more interested in the details of the services than in who died! ;)

OMG!!!! YES! I was just reading the obits of my home newspaper to see if anyone I knew had passed.

Yes. I've googled a name or two when I've seen such a young person passing.

I also look at the foreclosure notices.....................................................to make sure my house is not listed. :) I do look at them for properties around my neighborhood.

I also check the website for registered sex offenders. What was the question? LOL

No. And we don't get the paper.:

We have this thing called the Internet ;) Every newspaper is on it. :thumbsup2

And since obituaries are paid ads, even papers that charge for access give you free access to the obits.

Yes, I read them online every morning while I eat my breakfast. Started doing it about 25 years ago to look out for the parents of friends.......about 10 years ago it because a search for friends who had died.

No need, my mom does it for me, then calls me up to tell me about it. :rolleyes2
She also calls to tell me when the kids were in the paper for being on the Honor Roll or receiving some other recognition. lol. I guess I might not know.

Yes, I usually check them once a week or so.

We do still get the weekly paper for our little town, and they always have some of the local obituaries in there but for some reason not all of them make it in there so I do like to check on-line too.

Yes, we get a local paper every Wednesday and Saturday, and I always read the obits.

I get our local obits delivered right to my email through "obit messenger". It's a simple sign up.

Every single day. I work with the public and like to see if any of my customers or their family may have passed. It helps to add a little empathy on our part and if they are a close customer, we will send a card. For instance this week, a young son (early 20's) of a weekly customer passed away unexpectedly. When the customer came in, we were able to offer condolences and share in his grief for the few moments he was in. Our regular customers are an extension of our work family.

Oh yeah and I also look because I'm nosey :-)

I only read them once a week in the newspaper.

I hate it when someone very young dies. I always think it's sad when they have their whole life ahead of them, and they die young.
