Do you read everything in a post before commenting?

If its a "what would you do" I do, otherwise I think I could end up looking like an idiot. I might end up looking like an idiot anyway but hey, at least I was an informed and up to date idiot ;)

If it's a "red or black, choose" type thread then eh, maybe not.

I was reading and posting on a thread that is 24+ pages and has been going on for 2 days.
It never ceases to amaze me that someone will jump in and say "I haven't read this thread but here's my opinion".
I can see that on page 1 but on page 24 I find it kind of humorous. Threads evolve, more information comes out etc. etc. etc.

Do you read it all before responding or just jump to page (example) 24 and make a comment?

Depends. 1-3 pages, yes. 4+ pages, then probably not.

I don't always read everything

I usually read the first 3-4 pages.

For those really long threads, I usually read the first and last pages, to make sure I'm still on-topic when I post. Because usually, by the 24th page, the topic being discussed has absolutely nothing to do with the OP.

:thumbsup2 good point :rotfl2: makes sense to at least know where you are at.

I do usually read the whole thread before commenting. And I often find that after a couple pages, what I would say has already been said (sometimes a couple times over! :rotfl: ) so then I don't even comment.

Depends on the thread. If someone is asking for an honest opinion and I don't want to be swayed by all the other opinions, I'll go right into giving my opinion and then read the rest to see how many others agree or disagree with how I see things.

If a thread is 5 pages long? I might read the first two pages, maybe a little of the 4th or 5th, and then give my opinion.

Looking like a idiot isn't something I typically concern myself with on message boards. :lmao:

Nope.

I think most of us usually already know what we wanna say before we get to the last page anyway. :rotfl:

I do but I can't guarantee I absorb every little thought on there so I guess I am guilty of looking like an idiot sometimes... oh well there are worse things in life.

That depends--is this a trick question? Should I read this thread first before posting? ;)

My answer depends upon the topic and mood. Like Carly, sometimes I don't want my original opinion swayed and if it is a "What is your opinion thread", I will post my thoughts without reading anything.

Some threads, I keep up and have read the whole thing. Others, first page, and maybe the last couple of pages just to make sure where things are.

If it has turned into a Soap Opera, I will go and catch up. I'm nosy like that.

Always. This is one of my biggest pet peeves about the DISboards. It implies that no one else's opinion is as important as the one responding, and clearly, a discussion board is in existence because multiple responses are necessary in order to function.

Whether it's 1 page or 50 pages, I read them all. I definitely would be a very hypocritical English teacher if I only read the OP, and then responded, without paying any mind to all of the other responses that are also part of the discussion.

Discussions wouldn't be so long and redundant if people actually read other responses...just sayin'.

On longer threads, I'm often tempted to just jump to the end and post my response.

However, I might find myself asking why someone is talking to his bowel movement.:confused3

I do... otherwise my sig would be hypocritical.

Oh, and bananas...

(if you get the above odd addition to this post, you get... well... nothing, really, except the knowledge that you spend too much time on the internet like myself)
