Do you put ID on your kids anywhere?

Hi

I was wondering about this in anticipation of my first WDW trip coming up w/ kids. I remember one year I was watching the parade and the little boy sitting next to me had a laminated card on a lanyard with all of his info, medical stuff and on the other side was his Dads business card. Does anyone put ID on their kiddos anywhere?

Thanks!

Last year I made labels and put them on the back of my son's shirt, it had our cell phone numbers on it so someone could call us (we did not put his name on it). He had just turned 3 and was with us in the carriage most of the time, it was "just in case" he got away at some point.

I couldn't use the labels for when we were in the pool or at the waterpark, so I got a velcro bracelet that has a waterproof card in it and wrote our info. on that. I told him that it was his "ticket" and put it around his ankle. He didn't bother with it.

After the trip I found some shoe tag IDs at Right Start and bought some of those. They clip right on their shoelaces, we'll use these next trip, plus use the ankle bracelet for water.

It is worth taking the extra steps, I know if he was gone for a minute, I'd be frantic. We were in Toon Town one day and a little boy was wandering around, my husband asked him if he was lost and he took him to get some water and find a CM. Unfortunately, the boy wasn't "labeled" and all they could do was walk around the crowd with him looking for his family. It took them a good 20 minutes to find them (we kept an eye on things to make sure he was safe). I'm sure it felt like forever for his poor family.

Have a great trip!

We just got back from Disney. We have a DD(3.5 yr old). I went to Walmart and bought some beads with letters and numbers (in the craft area). I made one bracelet with her name and the other with my cell phone number.

I then went to the pet store and bought a dog tag. It was like the shrinky dink things in that it starts off large and shrinks when you bake it. You write whatever you want on it with a special pen then bake to shrink it. I hung that on one of the hooks used for hiking and hooked that to the belt loop on her shorts. Most days she had beltloops so she was double labeled. There were a few days she insisted on wearing a dress so we didn't have a place to hang it.

The other thing I did was pointed out CM's to her. I showed her their name tag and told her if she got lost to look for a person with the name tag.

I got these ideas off this board. There is a place that someone mentioned where you could order tags for their shoes. I thought it was easier to make them.

One word of caution....Sunscreen takes the paint off the beads but the numbers and letters on the beads are raised so you can still read them.

Our first trip will be May 20 and I went to Walmart and made some "dogtags" on the machine there - you can make the ones for dogs or they have some for people that look like military dog tags or smaller ones for kids. They were only $6 each and you could put four lines on the small ones. I put my child's name and both of our cell phone numbers and I went to Old Navy and bought lanyards for them to wear around their necks with the dogtag attached. I also bought keychain lights and attached to the lanyards for dark rides.

I wrote my cell # and the resort name inside their sneakers. You might want to keep an eye on it so it doesnt wear or fade. Ours was fine for the entire 9 days we were in Dis.
Also, tell your child that this IS your contact info so they will know to tell a CM.

We also made ID cards for our then 3yr old. It had our hotel, names and cell #s. He had a lanyard that we took off when we went on rides. His ID was also in his Mickey Hat he wore. Every morning we took his pic with the digital camera.

I have cards that I make up as well, and I keep our school issued KidID card... I also have the SHOEID that I ordered that wraps around your kids shoe laces or straps with all my info and cell number... they were advertised on allearsnet.com a while back...

The last time we went I got a bit crazy. I made each kid and myself a mini scrapbook. I found them at JoAnns fabric/craft store. They came with a keychain thing and I attached them to the kids belt loops or they put them in their pockets. The only time I was worried was when we were at Bilzzard Beach.

Each book was the same. It had pictures of all 4 of us, the kids had their name, age, weight & height. My picture had my name and cell phone number. The last page has their medical conditions listed. The 1st page had our resort name and the dates we were there. The kids still have their books and love to look at them. I figured if any of them got lost I wanted current pics of them. And if they were found by somebody my picture was there so they could know who to look for.

Here is DS's page.

I make up labels with scotch tape and a sharpie, then place a label on the inside of each of DS's shirts.

I too did the dog tag, but instead of putting it on a string around DD's neck since she likes to take necklaces on & off, I strung it through her tennis shoe so I knew she couldn't get it off. I put her name, our cell # & city/state.

We went to DTD the first day and had mickey head dog tags done with their first names and our cell # F.Y.I. don't forget the area code. I put them on chains from Walmart or Michael's that are long enough to tuck into their shirts but short enough that they can't pull them off. Then we drilled into our kids head about staying put, finding a cast member, and showing the tag. My 2 youngest wouldn't talk last year but they knew what to do. We would also randomly stop in the middle of the park and say if you were lost what would you do. We also physically walk up to cast members and show them there name badges.

When the kids were younger we had them carry a card in their pockets. They also carried pictures of DH and I. We also carry pictures of them. (Make sure they are recent!!)

I really like the idea of the dogtags.

Hate to mention this but, in our school district, name tags on outings have been forbidden for quite a few years. One instance involved an attempted abduction wherein they gained the child's trust by just reading their name, etc from their info tag, almost managing to lure the child into leaving with them.

Unfortunately, the world has changed dramatically and there are sick individuals out there, even @ WDW. At the very least, I'd attempt to conceal their name from plain sight; and review safety concerns before entering the park. Good Luck.

Well, like I said before we make them long enough that the tags tuck into their shirt. Besides as many times as I say my kids names everyone in the park knows them. You just have to be diligent about keeping track of your kids.

This is what I have done for my DD also. She loves them :) My DS has dog tags that we made at WalMart

All you need on any of the items is a cell phone number. I give my daughter a business card with " Daddy ###-###-####, Mommy ###-###-####". No personal information. Remember "less is more".

I was just going to buy those small see through luggage tags at Wal-mart,
2 for .97.
And, attach them to the kids belt loops on their shorts, with just
our cell #, and resort name.

I work in a hospital so I've always put my kids names, our cell phone #s and our resort name in Sharpie on a hospital bracelet for each child. They have to be cut off and are waterproof so they last the whole trip. I've learned to bring extra because people always ask where I got them.

I can't remember if I had an ID on my DD, but I do know for the first couple times we went (she was 4yo.) I made sure that I had a picture of her on me at all times.
