Do you prefer visiting WDW in April or August and why?

Avoiding Spring Break is hard to do because it seems every state schedules them differently, but if you can I’d go with April. It’s still hot, but not as oppressive as August. If you can’t avoid Spring Break I’d, personally, go with August. The heat can be dealt with, and the crowd levels are definitely lower. Some are wary to plan trips to FL in August because it’s when Hurricane season begins to ramp up, but it’s FL. The only trips I’ve taken that weren’t at least partially threatened by tropical weather have been in January.

August is hot, hot, hot!
April is a fantastic time to visit as long as it's not around Easter. Weather is usually very nice and Flower and Garden Festival is going on at Epcot.

April has amazing weather and is my first preference. Flower and Garden is also beautiful.
The last week of August has fantastically cheap rates and Food sand Wine starts. I don’t mind the heat/humidity but DH is very uncomfortable.

Most definitely April regardless of Spring Break crowds. The weather is so much better. I'll take crowds over heat any day.

I would probably choose August. I am coming from a place that is 90+ degrees and humid all summer so the weather in Florida is about the same. The crowds are less as the month goes on and food and wine starts which is my favorite.

April - while more crowded its better than the August heat - we have friends there now and they said its miserably hot there.

As said, as long as you avoid Easter, April. Less crowded, the Spring Break crowd is generally gone (we go toward the end of April) and the weather is usually really nice.
August is just hot and humid.

Most of the schools that don't take Easter as a spring break week, take their breaks in March. So when Easter is in say early April, or better yet March, mid to late April isn't even remotely near spring break or Easter levels. Unfortunately, Easter is way late next year (April 21) So April won't be the greatest next year.

We went in April and MK was a ghost town. I'm talking about pictures in front of the castle alone at 10 PM. The weather was beautiful.

Wow, intersting replies. We went in April this year on our child's spring break (Easter) and it was insanely crowded. Wall to wall to wall people! I would have no choice but to go again on Easter break because my child cant afford to miss school otherwise and we like to take a 9 day trip. So it's either Easter week for us or the second week of August, neither choice is great but leaning towards August. Plus the August trip for us would be about $2000 cheaper with airfare and a Deluxe stay. I so wish I could go early May!! But it's just too much school to miss.

April, avoiding Easter/Spring Break week if possible. We had beautiful weather and tolerable crowds during the first week of April when Easter was on April 16th.

Last year, we went the last week of August. The heat and humidity was as expected, but the daily downpours were frustrating. We had to change plans on the fly and one day we were all soaked having to walk from Fantasyland to the buses at MK. Not only our clothes, but our shoes too because we learned quickly that MK has poor drainage. We then froze on the bus back to our resort in the AC. The constant rotation of ponchos in and out of the backpack was a daily occurrence. It just was a negative that I can avoid by choosing a different time of year next time.

IMHO unless you are talking about late April, the crowds are just INSANE and MISERABLE. August IS hotter-n-hell, no doubt... Frankly I find the crowds to be about even, maybe giving an edge to August for lower crowds.... In any event, rope drop is your best friend! You can get a LOT done by being there at rope drop with breakfast in your belly and ready to go. Midday breaks will keep everyone on speaking terms regardless of when you go....
