I have a Minolta Freedom Zoom 130 camera that used to take great pics. I say "used" to because the door broke on it and now it doesn't stay shut. I bought the thing for around $45.00 on clearance at Target one year. I also have an Olympus C-5000 5mp camera and I don't know what the deal is but when I get the pictures printed, they don't look that great. I thought 5mp was good, but all my pictures come out looking kind of like cartoons (hard to explain) but they just aren't that clear. I'm not sure if it's the crappy Kodak "perfect touch" processing that messed up this last batch (Perfect Touch is the default for Ofoto I just realized and they screw pics up IMO).

So anyway, I'm rambling now. I would just like a regular 35mm camera. I'm convinced that unless I spend a thousand dollars on a digicam, my pics will never look as good as ones printed from actual film. Anyone have a point and shoot one they can recommend that isn't over say $125? TIA :)

Sorry you've had a bad experience with your camera, but this statement simply isn't true. I've got an Olympus D-580 which is a 4MP camera that currently goes for about $150 or so (half of what it cost when I bought mine). It takes incredible pictures. I've gotten many, many compliments on my photos. In fact, I know at least a couple of DIS members use one of my digital photos as their computer desktop pic.

I agree with DisneySteve-- I love my 35mm camera, but I bought a Canon A60 digital camera about 18 months ago, and it takes very nice pics. I'm quite pleased, amd it's only a 2.0 MP camera.

We have a Nikon digital camera and I hate it. It is a 5 mega pixel and half of the pictures come out blurry and the other half come out great. The picture delay is horrible and the stupid take picture button does not work properly and it is only 4 months old!!!!!!

I love my Olympus APS camera. It takes the best pictures, it is so easy to use and it takes the picture as soon as you hit the take picture button. I think I need to call Nikon and ask them why our camera acts so horribly, maybe ours is a lemon :confused3 :confused3 but either way I wish we never bought it.

Your pictures look nice. My camera takes pictures of objects nice for the most part, but the people come out looking weird most of the time. My camera has good reviews and everyone says it takes great pics. I just don't see the quality as being better than the ones in my photo album that were taken with regular film. I just don't want to do the digital thing anymore.

I prefer my Olympus film camera. I have a 4.3 dig, and don't like it at all. I don't like the quality, and I don't like the time it takes between pictures. (Especially with two tiny children always moving, and also at WDW when you are trying to get a couple of shots with Characters)

Also, supposedly, (so I was told) until digital cameras are able to reach into the thousands MP they won't have the quality of film.

I have been using an ebay store for my film cameras. They also sell digital, so you can give them a look too. I have had to purchase four film cameras in the last year, (one was taken by a contractor at my home, the next was stolen with my purse at the mall, and one was dropped from the stroller at WDW), so I am on my fourth! The store sells cameras that retailed for $250+ - but these are "floor models, or open box items" for under $50. I have not had any problems with any of the four. PM me if you want any more information.

What model is your APS camera?

I have a Canon A620 and had an A80 before that and the picture quality on both is great (although better on the A620, newer and more MP). I think that digital is better when you have kids because you don't have to worry about wasting film to get that perfect shot. For our XMAS card last year, we had the kids at the beach and took 300 pictures using the setting that just keeps taking picture after picture. We found the one we really liked and deleted most of the rest (of course we kept the really funny ones). It really saves the cost of photo developing as we only print the pictures we want and we look at the pictures on the computer much more than we do albums. Of course I have not tried scrapbooking yet so that might be a whole other story.

Dh bought me a Rebel Canon 2 years ago, and at the time I thought I loved it. Well, after dd #2 was born, he bought me a kodak easyshare 4 mp. I LOOOOVVVVE my digital camera. It is so wonderful. I can take a look at the photo before I print it or delete it and take another one. I don't think I'd go back to a 35 mm. In fact for this Xmas I bought the 5 mp easyshare. Dh asked me why I bought it since the my 4mp was perfectly fine. I kept it under the tree, and I went back and forth with myself about keeping it or giving it as a gift. Ended up giving it to my brother and he carries it around like it's the greatest thing since white bread. :cool1:

Oh, I forgot, have you looked at the other DISboard forum about photography? It is just below the Community Board... I think this is a link to just the board... you can refresh, this may take you to the posts as of 2am...

They may have some good advice, and lots of different threads to search!

I have an older Olympus 2020Z which is a 2.2 mp which I think takes awesome pictures. I don't print them out at 8 X 10, so I don't need to have as good a camera as my daughters $1000 canon rebel (with all it's fancy lenses..I can barely figure out all the settings on my little camera). The real secret with a dig camera, IMO is holding very still when taking pics. If it's important to me the pics be crystal clear, I use a tripod.

I have a Kodak EasyShare DX7630 6.1 MP
I absolutely love it! My pictures come out so clear and awesome! When I want a print I download to Walmart.com and I've been extremely happy with the quality of the pictures. I'm never going back to a film camera. There are just too many wasted pictures.
Good luck in you decision! :)

I have a Kodak easy share 3 MP and I love mine. My pictures are very clear. What I really like about the digital camera is I don't have to worry about bringing the film to be processed. It's so easy to download and store pictures. No worries about where my WDW 2005 pictures are. Now if you ask about WDW 2001 Yikes!!

I have several digital cameras and a film camera. I do prefer the digitals (my newest one is the Kodak z740). I take a LOT of pictures and it is nice to make sure that I get the shot I want.

I still have a few rolls of film that I need to be developed, but just haven't gotten around to it. With my digital, all I do is burn them to a CD or print them myself (I have a regular Canon printer and the pictures turn out beautifully). I did just place an order through AOL (they allow 100 free prints; you just pay shipping). I will see how they turn out.

The Kodak z740 is more than your budget, but I also have a Canon A310 and LOVE it. It is very easy to use and is within your budget. It is a 3.2MP, but if you don't plan on wanting 8 x 10 photos, it is great.

I have never liked my digital camera. Granted it is only a 2 megapixel model, but the quality is nowhere near that of my Canon Rebel G. I hate the delay between pictures on the digital. I also don't think that the digital cameras capture the same depth of field that film cameras do, but that is just my opinion. That being said if I could afford the Canon Digital rebel I would probably buy it.

On my last cruise I swore I would never get a digital camera, I loved my Pentax 35mm camera, it took great pictures. Well the entire cruise I ended up using only my parents Kodak Easyshare digital and fell in love with the digital cameras. I never thought I would buy one because I was so against the digital cameras and the quality of the pictures when you print them off, but I did get sucked in and bought a Pentax 5si digital camera. I loved that camera and then when we went to the pumpkin patch I gave my Pentax 35mm camera to an 8 year old to take pictures while I took pictures with my digital.....guess what the 35mm took better/clearer pictures.

I haven't given up on the digital cameras, I just need a better one.

I love my digital what ever I don't like I can erase. For me you can not get better then that.

I was hooked on my 35mm, mostly because our digitals were too hard to use. We have a Canon, HP and an off brand digital. This year DH got me an Easy Share (we saw that demo in Innovations at Epcot) and it is very easy to use. I may end up liking this one.

I have both. A Canon Rebel 35MM that takes great photos. First nice camera I ever bought. I also have a Fuji Finepix A120 3MP. Came with a new printer we bought. It takes pretty good pictures for a point and shoot. The only thing I don't really care for is the delay and the fact it eats batteries. I will use both the digital for quick pics and the film for really good pics.

I can ask if you ahve looked at the settings on the camera to see what they are set at. Just because it takes 5 MP photos, doens't mean that is what you are taking unless you change the settings yourself. You do need an absolutely steady hand. You also should use lithium batteries in your camera at all times. I ahve had the same battery in my Olympus PS for about 6 months and I take tons of pics with it. I also PMed you.
