Do You Prefer ME or Rental Car?

I've done both ways equally --- and for me, they are just two different kinds of trips without one being "better" than the other. Using Disney transport allows that complete separation of the world for me - I don't worry about where to park or crazy drivers - just go with the flow. I have had some waits for busses, but for the most part, think they have a system that works really well. And, I'm reading some recent reports on other boards that folks are seeing more CM's at the bus terminals, radioing in line levels, and folks generally having much better Disney bus experiences, which is excellent.

Renting a car is great because you have the freedom to get off property - even a quick trip to Walgreens or Target is sometimes necessary, and with a car, easy to accomplish. However, it's not free, and sometimes the expense can be pretty hefty (current rental rates are silly, tho seem to be maybe dropping a little).

For my money, I would rent @ MCO... I've NEVER had a hassle renting there (used Dollar, Budget, Avis), with my transactions taking around 30 minutes from the time I get in line to the time I'm finding the car. I don't know that I'd want to spend my valuable "on property" time securing a car, unless I really got a deal on the rental rate. Picking up at the airport is just so easy (in my experience).

We never visit without renting a car. It's just too convenient for the way we vacation. We grab a car at MCO when we arrive and we drop it off at MCO when we depart. It beats having to take time out of our schedule to hop a shuttle to the CCC.

We dine at other resorts too often to use the buses. I can't see spending an additional hour to get from one resort to another when a rental car will get us there in under 7 minutes. Plus, we make a Target run for water and sunscreen and milk, etc. the first night we're there.

Our cost this trip for a 9 day rental (taxes included) is $156. Completely worth it!

Can you elaborate? Every bus was down last week?

Yes. There was a suspicious package of some sort found on (or I think under) one of the buses and so the whole system was shut down for about 2 hours. This was last Thursday. I'm sure this is a one in a million sort of occurance, but it just reminds me that with the car I'm more able to be independent than relying on Disney transportation.

Ok, thanks. I didn't read the other thread that dealt with that, so I hadn't heard.
