Do you play the lottery?

I play the California Super Lotto every drawing, $1 twice a week. My vice. I don't mess with the scratchers and other games where the payout is less than $4 million We just got Power Ball here, I have only played that when the jackpot was over $300.....Megamillions I will play if over $100 million.

We do lottery pools at work when the Mega or Powerball gets really big. Sometimes I'll buy a couple of Cash 5s or scratchoffs (but I do my research to make sure which games still have the most big winners available). Then I enter any losers in the Second Chance drawings.
DH plays more than I do. He does win a bit here and there.

We've purchased a few scratch tickets before, usually once a year if that...just as a stocking stuffer.

I occasionally go to the casino with my parents to play the slots. I usually only play with $20 and lose most of the time. This past weekend we all went and my mom gave me $50 to play with and I ended up profiting $20. We love going for the entertainment, just like you'd spend money going to a movie or something. Winning is just a bonus. :)

You realize the odds of winning are the same as being mauled by a polar bear and a regular bear on the same day...
Well, I'd say the man who just turned in his winning 400 million dollar ticket did not mind getting mauled.

Yes we do play the lottery.

I run a lottery group at work, there are twelve total all of us servers and a few managers...We give 5.00 each week so I spend 60.00 each week on tickets, I usually get twenty powerball, ten hoosier lotto and ten mega..We have not won anything big so far and we have been doing it a year and a half the most we wont was 100.00..we just put right back in lotto..

Never bought a lottery ticket. Don't plan to start.

Yes, someone will win. But millions will lose. And the stories of the experiences people have after winning huge amounts of money are usually not fairy tale endings.

Sure, but you don't hear about the GOOD stories of lottery winners. There's no drama in hearing about the winner who purchased a home for their family, filled the kids' college funds, put money in a retirement fund, and took a dream vacation and continue working. That would make for some boring television!!!

The ones who have the bad experiences are the ones who truly don't appreciate the gift of winning that much money. They're so busy being "big shots" and buying 25 cars, mansions, boats, tacky jewelry, etc... they forget that they are now in a position where they can truly help others. (I'm talking about the ones who win LOTS of money)

I do remember one woman who hit the lotto. I think her take home from it was about $1 million. She purchased a home, paid off her debt, put money into her retirement. She continued working because, honestly, $1M is NOT a lot of money in this day and age. Anyway, she has family members who refuse to speak to her anymore because she wouldn't buy them homes or cars or give them money. Crazy.

Actually there is a show on cable's TLC called Lottery Changed My Life, I think this is the channel and name of the show. It has winners in the states and I have seen winners of the Britain lotto. I believe its reruns but see it most Saturdays. Each show usually has about 3 stories. It is pretty neat to watch how each spends the money.

We have a friend the lottery with a $5000 scratch off right behind it. They were in the process of building a house for themselves. All they did with the money was add an extra bathroom onto the house, fund college and put the rest in retirement. Some people do the right thing.

I like to buy scratch offs every so often. DH will contribute to a lottery pool at his office when there is a big jackpot. But we aren't big gamblers.

I have a dollar and a dream but no more than a dollar ;)

Once in a while DH will pick up scratch offs for the kids, and sometimes if the jackpot gets crazy-big we'll buy a Powerball ticket for the amusement value. All in all it is a far less expensive habit than even my daily soda.

I've never played the powerball or anything like that. My parents give us scratch offs every Christmas and and it usually takes us 6 months or more before we cash those in. We just cashed in the ones from last Christmas. We had won $38 so we just got more and now have $50. It'll probably be another 9 months before we turn those ones in.
