I didn't smoke when I was pregnant and until they were grown. I smoke 1-2 cigarettes ( not packs)/day. I enjoy it. When I have grandkids, I'll stop again.

I have never smoked, grew up with a mom who smoked and a dad who didn't. Most of my extended family smoked as well a a fair number of my friends, so I am surprised and very happy that I never picked it up. :goodvibes

Nope, never smoked. Actually, none of my friends in high school smoked. The guys I dated, didn't smoke, well, not cigarettes. Plus, I was too afraid of fire with the lighter. I however "smoked" those little gum cigarettes, lookng back, why would they make them for kids? different time.

My DF smoked from age 13 until about 73, but by then it was too late. He died of lung cancer. DM never has smoked that I know about.

Yep. One to two packs a day and have for over 30 years, with the exception of the duration of my three pregnancies. To be totally honest, when my stress level is expecially high, I can easily smoke over three packs a day.

On a thread mostly posted by non and reformed smokers, I can only hope you'll admire my honestly enough to keep you from flaming me! :lmao:

To mamacatnv...thanks for your post!

Never outside of 1 puff at a skating rink where I proceed to hack up anything to avoid actually inhaling it.

My mother has smoked all her life (correction ***since age 12). Her mom died of emphysema--my mother had all sorts of excuses for not quitting..I'll quit when you kids blah blah blah.

when I turned 18 it was her hallelujah moment to send m on her cigarette runs. That didn't last long.

I recently refused to purchase cigs for her when I ran to the store for something for myself. Sorry--it isn't my habit and if you're craving one and ran out--get it yourself.

I also used to break her cigarette packs when I was a kid as well.

Don't know why she never beat my behind for it--but she never did. She did stop asking me to support her habit though. I never had any interest in partaking in her death sentence.:sad2: So far so good--except she gets nasty coughing illnesses constantly.

I am pretty much an ex-smoker. I haven't had a cigarette in over 6 months. I actually quit by weening myself off without putting any pressure or expectations on myself-which is exactly what led me to failed quitting in years past. I gradually started smoking less & less until now I just keep an "emergency pack" in my car. I never use it, but for some reason I feel comfort in it's presence :)

I quit cold turkey almost 9 years ago when I found out I was pregnant with my 2nd child and I'm so glad that I did.

GL to anyone in the process of quitting.

I forgot to mention that I always associated a cigarette with a drink, that's why I reckon I ate more, to compensate. I had given up and started a few times prior to quitting, but I don't crave them anymore...:)

I've never smoked except for one puff next to my junior high school many, many years ago!

I have never smoked.
I cant stand the smell. I can be dead asleep at my dads house and someone will light one and I will wake right up,
Both my parents smoked and I hated it. BLECH
Just the thought of it makes me gag
But for some reason, I do have dreams of me putting out cigs
:confused3

I started smoking at 9 or 10 years old and quit about 3 1/2 years ago when I was 46. I smoked a few packs a day. My dad died of lung cancer about 11 years ago. He is another who literally smoked until the day he died. One of the last things my brother ever did for him was light a cigarette and hold it while he had a couple of puffs. That was right before he lost consciousness for the last time.

I quit for my daughter. I wanted to see her graduate from college (freshman right now) and because of a number of health issues, there was reason to worry that I might not make it! As a diabetic smoker, with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, and COPD I was clearly very, very high risk for heart attack. I took Chantix and managed to quit.

If I knew the world was ending tomorrow, I would be out buying a pack of cigarettes. I still miss it. Old, stale smoke smells icky but if I am near someone smoking a cigarette, I just want to grab it and smoke it! My husband still smokes but about a year after I quit he decided that I was really going to make it this time and started smoking outside!

I definitely had to have some motivation to quit. My daughter also invited me along on her high school trip to France as a chaperon but I had to not smoke! So quitting saved me enough money to pay for the trip and I was able to enjoy a great trip with my daughter!

Yeah, I have smoked all kinds of stuff... :lmao:

Quit smoking over 15 years ago. :cool2:

Smoked from the time I was 12 or 13. I'm 41 now and smoke free for 8 1/2 years.

No, I never smoked, but I grew up in a smoking household. My father died at 58 from lung cancer and my mom suffers with severe COPD....

Never saw the point in it. In these days why would anyone ever be so dumb as to start.

My DH and I quit cold turkey one year ago on the 15th of this month and never looked back.

I'm glad I quit. It was hard but anything worth doing is usually pretty hard.

Nope, DH & I both have never ever smoked. Been together for 35 plus years. Met in our early 20's and both have never had any desire to ever smoke.

I put ex, but.....

Saying you're an ex smoker is like saying you're an ex alcoholic. I started smoking in college (tried it before but only had one once in a while in HS), quit for 5 years, started again and then smoked for 12 years, quit again almost 4 years ago. I was never over a pack a day but I was consistant.

I could pick one up right now, and suck it down without a cough.

I will always want a cigarette, in certain situations I have to mentally talk myself out of a cigarette. However I know that I'm healthier without them.

I don't smoke, but I will always be addicted to tobacco.

ETA: I quit cold turkey the first time, the last time, I got really sick (virus then bronchitis) right before my 40th birthday. I was sick for three weeks. By the time I was well enough to smoke I had already gone through the withdrawl and was too miserable being sick for it to matter. I figured that was the time to quit so I did. I had my last cigarette, on my 40th birthday.

I wonder the same thing about why people eat so much. Gosh with all of the studies about obesity and the diseases it causes, I have to shake my head at fat people going to fast food restaurants. When I go to buffets, seeing fat people getting tons of food makes me nauseous. When will the government start putting black box warnings on junk food?
