do you need your vaca requests finalized/okayed by a certain date?

I put in my dates that Im away a llloonngg time ago - but there are a few dates that i can fluctuate on
boss seems to be stalling
when do you need your summer dates finalized/okayed by?
thinking a month ahead to be more than reasonable?

At my husbands job the men have to pick their vacation weeks in November for the entire NEXT year.

Makes it tough sometimes because we don't always know exactly when things are happening that following summer, like graduations, weddings and the like.

Still, we're just glad he's back to work...LOL

Hmmm......I make some reservations months in advanced. There's a super 50's -60's car show we go to every year in October that our room is already paid for.


I think your boss is not being reasonable , esp if you make a hotel deposit.

DH has to put in his vacation around Oct-Nov for vacation time starting after the new year.

Where I work (and am the HR manager) the Union employees have to put in for their vacation requests in January for the next year. They are allowed to make changes if they want, as long as it doesn't conflict with someone elses vacation time. And of course Seniority Rules, if there is a conflict when they all put in for vacation.

As a non-union admistrative employee, I can put in for my time any time I want up until the time I leave. I do usually know generally when I am taking time off. I always take one week at Christmas, one week at Easter and one week in the Summer. Next year we will add Presidents week to that. I have never been denied vacation. But I do always try to plan around my job duties. I always (try) to get approval for time before I make any non - refundable reservations.

We have an online vacation calendar at work. Critical periods (total 4 weeks out of the year) are blacked out and you need special permission to take vacation during them. Otherwise it's first come first serve. As long as my backup isn't out at the same time I can schedule whenever. DH's office is the same way.
