Do you need shorts in December?

The title says it all. My DH and I live in on the coast of Washington state and let me tell you, we definitely don't need shorts most months out of the year. I was thinking about buying 3 pairs each for a week long trip to WDW this December. But will it be hot enough that we can wear them? Or will we be freezing?

Heys... we are from BC and I don't know about December but in February it was darned cold. I even had to buy an additional fleece pullover as I didn't bring enough warm clothing! :scared1::scared1:

The last couple of days I was able to wear capris but definitely I would have been ccccccold in shorts even being from the PNW.

I have been in 2 different Decembers. We are from Louisiana and we're pretty wimpy when it comes to cooler temps (anything below 65 degrees F is cold for me). I have started off December trips with sweatshirts, jeans and gloves, only to finish the same trip in shorts and t-shirts. Of course, the New Yorkers (at least that's what was on their t-shirts) were wearing shorts and sandals while I was wearing my gloves and sweaters. Yes, they snickered at me. I think 3 pairs of shorts should be fine and sounds like the same thing I would pack. That gives you enough to wear and wash the others if you need to.

And remember, you often re-wear bottoms more than you were re-wear a top.

We try and pack light and do a load of laundry mid-trip. Saves room for the stuff we buy to bring home LOL

We are lucky now that we get laundry facilities in our rooms but we never hesitated to do laundry when we didn't :thumbsup2

We go in December for DH's birthday every year. You don't NEED shorts--you will be fine with jeans. The hottest it's ever been for us in December was in the low 80s, and that was at the peak of the day--jeans and Tshirts were fine, with lots of warmer layers for the evenings.

December can also be cold and windy, like in the 30s with a 20 mile an hour breeze, especially after the sun goes down. Some years we've been in coats, hats, gloves, and even long underwear (remember you'll be outdoors for hours at a time!). I personally wouldn't wear shorts to the parks in December no matter how warm it is during the day, since the temperature drops so much at night. (Of course, you can bring warmer clothes and put them in a locker--we usually stuff our coats in a locker!).

We have been to Disney 3 times in December.. it has always been in the 30-50 degrees. I agree that you will be fine in jeans and then just take off layers as the day starts "warming up".

December is one of the trickiest months for packing. I pack for all kinds of weather. We have gone every Dec. for about 12 years now and have seen temps anywhere from the 30"s to low 90s. It's usually cool in the mornings and warm in the afternoon's. Last Dec. we took jackets and never wore them once. We wore shorts and t-shirts all week. We'll be going again this Dec. and I'll pack a little of everything. I check the 10-day forcast before leaving to get some kind of idea about the weather.

We were at the parks for the first week in December in 08. We wore shorts every day, but the night we watched Illuminations it got down in the 40s and we were very cold. Most nights and mornings we wore sweatshirts and they felt very good.

Alright, here is what I'm thinking. We have 2 travel days and 7 days in the park for a total of 9 days. DH and I should each pack:

5 shirts
2 pairs of shorts
2 pairs of jeans/pants
and a jacket

(as well as underwear, obviously!)

Does this sound reasonable?

We do plan on doing laundry

We are from a "cold" state too!! When we left for our December trip it was snowing at home and my kids wanted to wear shorts to celebrate being some place warmer. We wore shorts, went swimming and took a trip to Daytona to the the beach. It was warm enough during the day for all of these and my kids loved showing friends their "warm" vacation pictures.

We were there last December. The week before we got there, there was some cold weather and people were in jeans and sweaters. The forecast for our week the night before we got on the plane was highs in the low 70s all week. We all took jeans and thin long sleeved shirts for the week, thinking if we got cold at night, it was a good excuse to buy a sweatshirt. The first full day we were there, they had a heat wave and it was between 82-85 degrees the whole week. It was HOT! We had to all buy short sleeved T-shirts to wear all week as we were sweltering in our long sleeves. I would have loved to have had shorts! It did not cool down enough at night to where we even wanted long sleeves so none of us even wore any of the shirts we brought. We were there in December several years ago and we wore jeans and sweaters or sweatshirts all week and were perfect. You just never know what you are going to get that time of year.

Perfect -- don't forget bathing suits! The resort pools are heated :thumbsup2

we have been 4 times in December and we think the weather can vary, sometimes we wear shorts and sometimes sweatshirts and pants. We were there for 17 days in Dec 08 and the first day was COLD and we all bundled up and the remainder of the trip we only wore shorts. One particular day at Epcot my dad and I were talking and said thank goodness we had shorts because that day was hot. So I do try to take a variety of clothing.

Florida weather in December is tricky to predict. Mornings and evenings have a large temperature difference than mid-day. You may start the day in pants, change to shorts than back to pants in the evening and at night.
I have been comfortable in shorts at WDW in December and I have had to wear pants. If you can, bring a pair of shorts into the parks if the temperature is predicted to go 80 or above for that day.

I am glad I saw this...I am going 12/5-12. I guess I will be watching the weather report to see what is predicted.

I was in Disney in October 2006. the first night there we needed sweatshirts. The next night we didn't need sweatshirts...the next few days and nights were so HOT and HUMID. You never can really predict the weather...lol

I have been in Dec when we were sweltering and in the pool only to have the next day so cold we were in jackets and gloves...It truly is all over the place
