Do you need a car to camp at FW

My family loves to tent camp and are thinking about planning a trip to FW. Can we do it w/out a car? If so, are there lockers where we could stash stuff while we are out?

I think it is very doable. There are a few frequent posters on this board who fly in to tent-camp on a regular basis. Our family of five did it last year and we had a good time (although we will bring a camper next time - too hot in a tent most of the year).

We rented a golfcart and between that and the buses and boats, found that we could get around without too much trouble. You'll have to wait for a bus now and then, but nothing too major.

Let me put it this way - the reason we aren't going to fly in to tent camp again has nothing to do with the transportation. We just didn't enjoy shlepping all that stuff around the airports, etc. Magical express was great, and Disney tranportation system was very efficient.

Thanks Drew! We are thinking of doing the dining plan so we can eat great and NOT have to bring our stove and cooking stuff. That should help with the shlepping stuff around issue.

I drove down in a van and we camped out of it there for a week and never once moved it. There are no lockers tho.

We are flying down in july to tent camp and I've already have most of our stuff packed!LOL! I can't wait! There will be 5 of us so we are allowed to check 10 bags on the plane---Our tent will be(1)--Air conditioner(2)--Duffel bags all rolled together(3)--Cooler holding misc camp stuff(battery lantern,brita water bottles etc) (4)--Stroller(5) and that still leaves 5 bags to fill with clothes and other items!!!

We are using the MYW dining because we know we will be at the parks for most meals and are using the ME for transpotation to and from the airport.

As for expensive items I don't think you'll have much outside of cameras and video equipment and they'll be with you when you're not at the campsite and if you do have something I was told you can bring it to the front office to hold.

Plus a lot of ppl here have said they've never had a problem leaving stuff at their site so there shouldn't be to much of a problem!

Ok, I have to ask because I am totally naive about tent camping, but what kid of air conditioner to you bring for a tent?? And how does the cool air stay in?

You could definetly do it with out a car. What valuables are you worried about? If its just the basic stuff I would feel safe to just leave it at your camp site.

I fly and camp every year.

Bring at least 1 plastic footlocker that can lock. That's where I keep my laptop when I'm out.

Actually if you bring your child through the airport in the stroller and gate check it, I don't think it counts against your allowance.

So you may actually have 6 more bags available. (Bring some type of rain shelter and bring a folding bag chair or two if you have the room)

We are bringing a regular window unit a/c and thinking maybe a milk crate to hold it up off the ground. As for keeping cool I think w/windows zipped and rainfly on we should be alright--Just looking for some relief to July humidity because we want the kids to actually want to go camping again!!!


CL thanks for the heads up I didn't even think of that!!! Now I can go back and reconfigure our luggage and possible bring more stuff!!! LOL! You always have great advice!

Where do you attach it to your tent? Or maybe not attach but let it blow in through a window? Duck tape maybe? This is really interesting....if I could stay cool, I might consider tent camping with my kids again!

We will use one of the doors believe it or not! We have a 3 room tent with 3 doors so the room we will use to store our bags and such is the door we will use---that way we wont have ice cold air blowing on us but rather a cool comfortable enviroment----We will use some plastic and duct tape--looked into the "BOOT" that someone showed here and its just to expensive!
