"Do You Mind?" - Disney Adventures with Teens August Trip Report

Great update Susan! Everything looks great! I have never ventured over to the Swan or Dolphin! We will have to check it out in June! Thanks for the great review:thumbsup2 I plan on making an ADR for Cali Grill, so I am anxious to hear your review!:goodvibes

I am not a big seafood person, but the dessert and drink look very yummy!!:goodvibes
They had more than seafood, but it is a seafood joint. Dessert rocked. Drink rocked more!

Thanks so much for posting the bluezoo photos -- very cool!! Food looks amazing.

My guesses:
Grandma Bonnie went to bed early?
The rest stayed out and went to Epcot and then you headed over to DTD.
Midnight bedtime.
It was very good food.

(sorry)
I'm so glad you inspired me to quiz!

mmmm now my stomach is rumbling. Great pictures! The desserts look so pretty!
Thank you. Yeah, my stomach is rumbling too, just thinking about it. Again, I didn't remember what a great meal it was until I was writing the TR. Maybe that's why we do TRs?

Hey great update! I had no idea that Bluezoo even exsisted, of course we have never even been up close of the Swan or Dolphin so how would we have known :confused3 ? Anyway, it looks awesome and the food looked great. We might have to try there one day!! Thanks for the dining review and I can't wait to hear more!!
Thank you! I found it from Zagats and a couple of the other Disney guides, plus the food porn thread. We like seafood, so we wanted to try it. It was perfect since we could walk over there on our first night.

subscribed!

amazing TR.
:welcome: Awww shucks. Don't give me too much credit. I feel so slow with the updates.

Thanks Diane! You should check it out. There are other good restaurants (so I hear) in those hotels too. I meant to try the sushi one but we never got a round to it. I can't wait to do my Cali Grill review. But it will be another few chapters. Sorry to make you wait.

I am in Las Vegas at a conference this week. Chris came with me and we are celebrating his birthday. Unfortunately for DIS, this means I probably won't add another chapter until sometime next week. But at least you will all understand the delay. Viva Las Vegas!

whoops... i think i started at the wrong begining.. anyway, here I am now! :yay:

Subbing!

Oh, well, one right!!

Keep the quizzes coming ... can't wait for a new update (HINT)

popcorn::

I just came across your trip report. we stayed at the Beach Club a few weeks ago and fell in love with it. I can't wait to read all about your trip!

I am greatly enjoying your TR. The pics from Bluezoo are amazing and I would love to go there but I'm afraid my husband would be the one asking for the kid's menu. Alas, it's a little too seafoody for him.

Your report has been excellent so far. Love the quizzes!

But you miss out on all that wonderful golden fur and drool on the silver bird:lmao: (Trust me as the Mom of two goldens I know:goodvibes ).

Loving the trip report!

You are SO right! Soft long blonde hair and warm drool were missing on the plane. Our flight attendants just didn't fit that description.:rotfl2: Has anyone else noticed how old and frumpy female flight attendants have become lately? I've been flying a lot lately and female flight attendants are sparse these days. There are a lot of males in that job now. Guess they cracked the glass ceiling in the cabin when the ladies cracked the glass ceiling in the cockpit. I've been noticing more female pilots, too.

But I digress, back to the TR.:surfweb:

:thumbsup2 Love the make up first day of school pictures!

Me, too!!!! But, then, I love any pictures of my grandchildren. However, now that Katie's Aunt Jo lives nearby, she needs to get some "picture posing pointers" from Joann. Joann was a professional model in her late teens and also a teacher at a modeling school as she "worked" her way through college.

I'm sure we will eventually see Katie's teeth in pictures when the braces are removed. She is such a pretty petite little lady. It's a shame we can't share her beautiful smile with y'all.

But, I digress.....back to the TR.

Part II, Chapter 4
Saturday, August 9
He Had Me at “Rock Candy Syrup”

Is anyone hungry? Let’s go to bluezoo!

As you enter the restaurant, you have to walk through the lounge area to get to the table seating.
I tried to take pictures ......

Service seemed quite slow.

Mom and Chris also each ordered a Ginger/Peach tea

Continued...

Yes, we're hungry!
The entrance was very eyecatching and welcoming......unlike our waiter.
Susan's pictures just don't capture the beauty and esthetics of the decor. This is one of those places you have to see in person. Virtual just doesn't cut it at BlueZoo. (Although, at times I thought our waiter was in cyberspace, because he certainly wasn't near our table much.:confused3 )
By the way, the Ginger Tea was quite tasty and had all the "punch" I needed after a day of traveling.
If you hang with us long enough, you'll learn that I'm not a prude when it comes to beverages with a "kick."

Grandma Bonnie ordered the jumbo shrimp appetizer with a variety of sauces.

Chilled Poached Jumbo Shrimp, avocado puree, bloody mary sauce, fennel salt

I think that is cocktail sauce on the left, avocado puree third from left, and bloody mary sauce on the right. I am not sure what the yellow one is. Maybe those are avocado slices on the bottom of the plate? Mom enjoyed this – especially the bloody mary sauce.

Bonnie was already feeling full, so she ordered the side lobster-stuffed potato in lieu of an entrée.

Lobster Broccoli Stuffed Cheddar Potato

She loved this. I’m not sure if she even was able to eat all of it.

Our waiter was extremely hesitant to allow this, telling us three (or more) times that “they really don’t like to do that”. I have to wonder if a Disney-owned property would have treated us this way.

Alright, now it’s time for dessert.

Mom wanted the same dessert she had seen at the table next to us. It was described as follows:
mai tai banana cream tart……roasted pineapple and dark rum flambéed exotic fruit sorbet

The waiter soon returned to tell us that they had unfortunately just served the last one of those desserts, so she had to choose something else.

So she ordered the napoleon dessert.

Looks delicious, huh? Wait ‘til you see it from the side!

We helped Mom with this one. It was delightful! We loved the touch of the gold leaf on top. Reminds me of Goldschlagger.
They should find a way to let people know that this is not a place where kids will be comfortable.

The shrimp were HUGE!!!!! and delicious. ;) The "Bloody Mary" sauce was on the far left and simply the same old cocktail sauce you usually get with shrimp. However, the other three sauces were quite unique and a nice variety.:thumbsup2 :

The lobster filled potato was delicious, too. And I did, indeed, eat the whole thing!!!!!!:cool1:

In describing the waiter's response to our request for a Kids Menu......let me just say that Susan was kind in her report. He was simply PERSISTENT and RUDE. :sad1: However, since it was not a Disney owned establishment, he probably was just following orders. :scared:

I must say, though, that I did notice children at other tables and they seemed to be quite happy to eat from the Kids Menu. So maybe it wasn't so bad and maybe families without teens would be ok eating there.:grouphug:

Dessert was a mixed emotion course to this meal. I so wanted the sorbet that I saw at the next table. I was all prepared to jump into it and not share a bite. ;) Then the news came that they were out of it. :guilty: I thought that was surprising since we were eating relatively early. And how could they be so unprepared?????:confused3

Well, I usually make lemonade out of lemons and ordered the raspberry concoction you see in the pictures. It was out of this world!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 Words cannot describe how tasty it was. My mouth is watering for it as I type this.

I give the ambiance :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
I give the food::thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
I give the staff RASPBERRIES (and I don't mean the kind I ate in the dessert.)

Caught up on the "meat" or in this case "seafood" of your TR! (still have to go back for the PTR one of these days!

My cousin is the webdesigner for Wyland! Yup, my claim to fame is a cousin who works for an artist. I haven't talked to lately, but I will as about any discounts just for future reference.

I loved your panoramic shot of the boardwalk! That worked out great. I have tried that on several occassions.. none of them near as pretty. :worship: Is it just me or is that GIANT SWAN ATTROCITY really annoying???

I love all the details.. I've never been to WDW so even the things that everybody has seen, I have not.

Looking forward to more!

Your guesses -
#1 correct

This is only partially correct. Let it be known that the Olympics occurred during our WDW trip and I have always been a fan of them.
I did indeed return to the room earlier than the others in our group, but when I did, I took a shower, turned on the TV, and caught up on the Olympics. I just think that is appropriate for a woman of my age.:rotfl2:

Hey, I don't blame you for retiring early. After a huge day of traveling and such, I'm usually one of the first to go to bed...

I'm a huge olympics fan, too. Although I love Disney, I just couldn't go during the olympics -- or else I'd never sleep!

I am back from Vegas, but will have to catch up on responses and post a new chapter a little later this week. Busy week with a local conference in town. I will post this weekend while everyone else in Austin is at the Austin City Limits Music Festival. Chris and I decided not to go, and Katie sold our tickets for $150 each. I made her a deal that she could keep half of whatever she sold them for. :)

Just wanted to tell you how much I am enjoying your Trip Report!! You are an excellent writer, and you have a gift of immersing the reader into your experience at WDW! I'm excited to read more!
