Do you make it to midnight?

  • Make it? I party right through it an on 'til the next morning!

  • With the help of some caffine I can make it to 12:05 and then I'm ready for bed

  • I try, but fall asleep before the ball drops

  • I know it's a lost cause....kids are in bed by 9 and I'm out by 9:15!

So.....do you make it up until midnight on New Year's Eve?

oh yeah... and then some. i'm usually up till about 2am or so... depending on what's going on

These days, we have a little party with our kids (10 and 4) and ring in the new year at about 7:00 p.m. with sparkling apple cider. We may stay up until 10 or so, but the days of seeing in the new year are pretty much done for us. Ever since we had kids, sleep is a precious commodity:). The last time I stayed up for the new year was to see if Y2K was really going to be the end of the world.

We stay up as late as we can, kids, hubby and I, we have game night, order junk food in nad play all of our new board games. When everyone is played out, we change all the clocks except hubby's watch to 11:55. Hee hee.. then we go outside in our pj's and coats and do a count down of our own. We giggle, laugh, make a lot of noise and shoot each other with silly string. It's ok no matter how late it is, the neighbors all over the block party like crazy so we aren't disturbing anyone. Then we come in, kids go to bed, hubby turns all the clocks back to the correct time and we have a glass of wine and go to bed. :) It's a nice tradition and they LOVE the silly string!

For the last 3 years we have a lock-in with our youth group so I wake up new years eve at 7am and dont got to sleep till new years day around noonish.

We host an open house on new years eve. The kids pick out the menu for our meal that we have before midnight and than dessert after midnight (what better way to start off the new year than with dessert;) ). So whether I want to or not I'm up until after midnight.
It's fun though. My grandma (in her late 80's) comes up early every year to watch a movie with the kids. She thoroughly enjoyed the Lord of the Rings.

I'm a night owl and rarely ever go to bed before midnight anyway, so I'm always up when the ball drops.

If we do something i can make it no problem. We usually have a grown up pajama party. My sisters and our husbands go to my mom's, we settle the kids in with some dvd's, and the grown ups eat yummy food, and have a few cocktails, and we play games.

It's a great way to spend time together without the stress of a regular holiday. This year my sister is having a real party because she just bought a new house...needless to say, I'm not as excited about this. Any chance to hamg out in my jammies is one that I look forward to, but sis says i have to wear "real" clothes.

We'll go back to the pajama parties next year.

I try... sometimes I make it to 12:01.. but sometimes I don't make it.. and fall asleep!:)

usally, but i really don't think so this year b/c my dh is working so it'll just be me and the kids, we are going to camp out in the livingroom, watch movie, eat junk foods, make sumores in doors ... they are excited, usally nana keeps them and me and dh get to go out to eat with friends and play cards, at someones house or go to a local bar to watch the ball drop, something fun... but this year since he's working i'm not going out with out him... so the kids get me for the night! LOL

geeez! this thread mad me feel old! :sad2: back in the day, BC (before children) I partied all night party: When the kids were really little, I didn't even bother to try to stay up, every bit of sleep was just too precious. Now, we usually stay up until at least 12, maybe have some friends over for some good food and a few adult beverages. Let the kids "camp out" on the family room floor, play some games... I made it until about 1 last year....

This year? we'll see....

This year we will be getting SLIMED at midnight at the Nick Hotel! I think that should keep everyone awake, at least for a little while!

Ooooo! That sounds like so much fun! I would stay up past midnight if we were doing something so cool. Have a great time.:goodvibes

Heck, I make it to midnight EVERY night! :lmao: DDs are usually up to 10 or 11 anyway, so the extra 2 hours is no biggie for them.

I'm usually still up at midnight on a normal night, so NYE is now problem.

What a great tradition!!

We've gone through several phases ourselves - big parties with friends, best-and-worst-of-the-year gabfests, the sleep-is-too-precious years, neighborhood parties with the kids all in PJ's... (oh, and can't forget when I was a young teenager - the most lucrative babysitting night of the year!)

This year a nature preserve nearby is hosting a New Year's Day hike up in the hills. If the weather prediction is just right, we may have an early night and celebrate it as a day holiday instead. - It seems a different and particularly hopeful way to start the year. We'll see how it goes.
