Do You Lysol Spray Your Stateroom?

Does anyone lysol/disinfectant spray their stateroom surfaces like remotes, door handles, counters, etc upon entering, or do you trust that its been cleaned thoroughly by the stateroom hosts after the previous occupants have departed? I'm thinking I should pick some up just to be safe but I'm just curious how many others have done this.

I have used Chlorox wipes (they come in a travel pack of like 15) to wipe things...I wouldn't want to carry the spray.
I also bring a small spray air freshener for the bathroom, and a pump foaming hand soap for by the sink (I think bar soap is GROSS!!!)

I never thought of doing it on the ship! Great idea....we do it on the plane though since the first few times we flew across country, I got sick as well as my son. Wipes are great and take up little room....

Yup. Thermostat, menu book, blind rods, light switches, handles, etc. anything that is not a regular part of cleaning. I also clean my KTTW card regularly as that passes amongst people. I use several clorox wipes, so as not to use the same cloth for several items and cross-contaminate.

I also go out of my way not to hold onto any railings or press any elevator buttons.

We too bring foaming anti-bacterial pump soap for our own bathroom as well (I too hate washing my hands with bar soap!).

But what about the carpets and curtains and pillows and comforters and the airborne particles they may have. They are not replaced on every cruise?

When you think about it, 1000 crew on the Magic class and 1450 crew on the Dream class don't have their cabins disinfected every cruise and they just get sick from the Guests for the most part.

Other Guest's touching things you touch, CM's touch and they touch outside your Stateroom is what makes people sick.

Just a thought.

And the only really useful part of the shock article you posted that would no one stay in a rented room on land or on a ship is....... Dah Dah!

I'm currently researching anti viral options. I know I won't be counting on anyone but myself to sanitize all the surfaces. How could they have time for this detailed and time consuming task? The trick is to keep the kids out of cabin until complete. And yes I may "do" our regular path after hours too. I may do the whole ship if I have enough DotDs. Hey I'm sure other Diser's with kids would help. OK that's it. Sanitation club meets in Skyline nightly @ midnight. BYOW. (bring your own wipes)

Don't forget the TV remotes, light switches, shade pulls, and hangers.

I've read many reports of illness while on ships. This would be devastating after all the planning, anticipation, waiting, and not to mention expense. I can't imagine being quarantined, but I'm glad I read about that possibility prior to sailing.

I don't lick all that stuff or touch it then put my fingers in my mouth. So no. I just wash my hands after the restroom and before eating just like at home, land hotels and restaurants.

We don't bother to disinfect. That's what our natural immune systems are for. Besides, I heard that Lysol wipes out the magical properties of the pixie dust in the room.

I, too, do not disinfect everything I, or my family, may touch/breathe/eat.

We've done 6 cruises so far, the first one I got off with a head cold (and that's all it was). Other than that, we've had no illnesses contracted onboard. Unfortunately, I'm not one who can avoid using the handrails on the stairs, I need them for support, so I wash and use the available wipes whenever I come across them onboard.

Just remember to wash your hands, especially after using the toilet, and before eating. More than that is probably not a bad idea.

Do you also drench your cash in your purse/pocket/wallet in Lysol? Cash holds all manner of nasty bugs, and if you had seen even a fourth of the filthy places people pull cash out of, you would cringe! I handle thousands of dollars in cash daily. I don't worry about those germs. I just am militant about not touching my face, and about washing my hands once I leave the cash handling areas. One of our cashiers wears a mask during cold and flu season, and is always ALWAYS slathering on the hand sanitizer. Guess who is out sick all.the.time. certainly isn't me!

Funny you bring this up. I do launder my money. Just Kidding ...

I would be much less concerned with germs if my kids kept their fingers out of their mouths. I hope it's just a several year phase they will concur prior to sail. However, I have a suspicion, even inclusive my efforts, they will unfortunately still be hungry for fingers when we sail, even with the abundance of food available on board.

I don't feel the need to disinfect every thing in my room or that I will touch, but I do wash my hands often and make use of the wipes they hand out at the eating areas and when re-boarding the ship after being in port. Haven't gotten sick yet...

I'm allergic to sprays and will have an asthma attack if sprayed near me.

Clorox wipes are a regular attendee on our WDW trips - our cruise will be the same. I'll have 2 under 5 with me, so keeping hands out of mouths doesn't always work. We'll emphasize hand washing, as usual, and I'll clean the surfaces my family touches, just like I do at home.

We do wipes on planes and in hotel rooms, yet for some reason did not do it on the Fantasy last month. Perhaps lulled by the "new ship" and both DH and DD were sick with a head ache and vomiting the day we got off the ship. FYI germs commonly enter the body when one rubs their eye as well as through the mouth.

Short answer, no. Frequent hand washing is all.
