Do you love/like or hate this painting?

Not like I'd hang it over my couch or anything (as if I'd ever have that kind of money), but I think it's a great painting. The colors and the composition are suppose to not just show you the subject, but allow you to hear the scream. A lot of modern painters used colors subjectively- this isn't the world we see but the world we feel. Which is why you constantly see this image reprinted on a coffee mug with captions such as "It is Monday already?" or "Get me coffee quick!!!"

I have never liked that painting! We had to study it in AP Humanities and it was one of my least favorites. I can see the fear and turmoil and such in it but I still just plain do not like it.

I don't really like it because it is very unsettling, but the emotional charge of the piece is what makes it interesting.

Don't care for it. I prefer Monet as an artist and his paintings are quite different! :sunny:

We studied this painting and another of Munch's paintings, The Voice, in art history.

I find his paintings, including this one, intriquing. It depicts anxiety to me.

It is one of my favorite paintings.

It is supposed to be symbolic of a man who comes to the realization that his life has no meaning. It is an emotion that many people feel at some time in their lives, especially around middle age when people reflect on what they have done.
The man is standing on a bridge (possibly contemplating suicide).

I think the painting is beautiful.

For some reason I love this painting. By all accounts, it is ugly, but there is something in it that just appeals to me and draws me to it.

It scares me a little, it's kinda like a bad dream.

I like it BECAUSE it stirs emotion. I wonder what has happened to make this person so distraught and I feel his/her pain. I like paintings that force me to think about them.

Munch did another one, I can't remember the name of it right now, that I like more
Is this the one you are thinking of Browneyes?
It is called "Madonna" and it was also stolen along with "The Scream"

The man has come to the realization that his life has no meaning (see my post regarding this). I saw the painting at the Art Gallery Of Ontario (in Toronto) a few years ago.

Another Yea vote. I have always liked Munch's paintings because they make me feel. I like things that evoke emotion.

I read about this today. It's hard to believe that the museum has their priceless artwork just hanging by a wire on the wall, much like I would have in my house...

I have always loved this painting..It is very interesting to me...

I don't care for any of Edvard Munch's paintings, they are just not my style.

I have always been fascinated by this painting. It has always been one of my absolute favorites.... it is so vibrant and elicits such emotion from anyone who sees it. Either you can feel the pain of the person on the painting or you can attribute it to someone you love.

One odd fact...I have a Psychology degree and have learned that most Psychology majors/degreed people care deeply for this painting.

Interesting, isn't it?
