Do you live in a smart state?

Wow, how did VA pull that out with the huge handicap of the Richmond City Council? :rotfl:

Woohoo. #29. I feel like I should go read the dictionary or something. :lmao:

ETA: I did look at the previous years rankings, and I will say that I'm proud of FL for moving up steadily. :cheer2:

Thats cool. I am in 10.

Well...about half the states are smarter than us...but half are more stupid. I'm gonna go with the glass half full attitude! :woohoo:

Connecticut ranked #3 but looking around the state, as the saying goes; "you could have fooled me!" ;)

Ours was pretty crappy. Number 41.
I am sure things like minority populations, percentage of migrant workers things like that have an effect.
If you don't speak the language it is harder to test well.

Let’s see, we (Florida) pay our teachers poorly, we put waaaaaaay too much emphasis on standardized testing so that the kids don’t really learn anything (and instead are taught how to take an exam), and a large part of the population are retired Yankees who are both

a) Yankees and therefore stupid, and ;)
b) old and aging Yankees and therefore getting more stupid-er. ;)

So, yeah, I can see 29th… :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Plus, looking at their criteria, states like Florida, Texas, and California are handicapped due to the large immigrant populations that don't speak/read English very well - some of the positive criteria include reading and writing proficiency among 4th and 8th graders, for example. Many of those same kids miss many days of school at various times of the year to help pick the harvest with their families, and one of the other criteria is average daily attendance verses fall enrollments... :sad2:

#30 Tennessee.. hey, at least there are still people out there that are dumber than we are :sunny:

Yeah, but we're still ahead of Mississippi, Alabama and CALIFORNIA  who knew?

The factors for ranking seem odd and abstract. The title "Smartest States" is based soley on the public education systems? I'm a teacher and can see through this. This reminds me of the classes that come to me and say, we're the dumb kids. Well, the "dumb" kids have been building homes, roads, schools, and malls for a long time, as well as fixing my cars and appliances. In fact, I have to go make a phone call to a dumb person to fix the pump in my basement so if you'll excuse me..... :wave2:

OMG!!! #34 here!! Don't count me in, I have an IQ of 161, really, really I do, please believe me.

Maybe I should move !!!!!! :moped:
