Lets see, we (Florida) pay our teachers poorly, we put waaaaaaay too much emphasis on standardized testing so that the kids dont really learn anything (and instead are taught how to take an exam),..
Same goes here in Georgia that's why we're at 41. We're dumb as a nail because of all the testing they do. I can't understand why they test these kids 3x a year. The first being in Oct. to see what they know, then again in April and May to see what they have learned. How are they suppose to learn anything if all the kids know how to do is prepare for a test.
The factors for ranking seem odd and abstract. The title "Smartest States" is based soley on the public education systems? I'm a teacher and can see through this.
My daddy used to teach college algebra and is pretty good with numbers. He says you can make statistics say anything you want. He's daddy, so I believe him!
DH and I were born in raised in #2, oldest children were born in #2 and now test into advanced and Honors classes...but 2 of our DDs will be native #29ers...we're hoping to move back to #2 soon, I hope our 2 youngest DDs aren't doomed to be the slow, hot fry girls?
Some of the factors I could agree with, such as graduation rates, but spending per student and teacher salaries have nothing to do with how "smart" someone is. Compare Catholic school tuition to public school $/student and you can see that!
