So I was at the library today checking out books, and the librarian was saying how great it is that I am in all the time, and that my name comes up a lot in the hold lists. I was actually a little embarrassed! In my defense, I have three kids and I put a LOT of stuff on hold for them, books, movies, etc. It's so easy that I can put stuff on hold at home, buzz in, check my stuff out..be in and out in under 5 minutes. Quicker than going to the bookstore!

And then at my favorite clothing store..ugh..they know me by name. I don't even have to say it when putting my holds in. :scared1:

Same at the bank. I go to a big bank here in VA, but it's usually the same people working there. Anyway, they would greet me by name when I would walk in..before seeing my driver's license or account info. I am not sure I like that!!!

I prefer to fly under the radar. Except with actual friends and family, of course. If I don't know you I would rather pretend you didn't know me. :lmao: Am I alone like this? Do you like to be recognized?

I lived in a small town for many years and I got used to it and I actually really like connecting with people. In fact, I visited the town I used to live in after being gone for two years and Bobbi, the woman at the check out at the grocery store, greeted me by saying, "Hi, Amy. I haven't seen you in a long time. Did you move to the other side of town?" :lmao: DD thought it was hilarious.

Here, they know me at the grocery store, the bank, the video store, the library, our favorite diner--all my usual hangouts. It makes me feel like part of the community.

I hate being recognized. I'm really bad at small talk and being recognized by someone I haven't seen in awhile usually results in that. :headache:

I'm with you. I really don't like it all when I'm recognized at all like that. It makes me feel so uncomfortable. I totally agree that I'd rather they pretend they didn't know me, because while they may know my face, they don't "know" or care about me, so I'd really prefer they didn't act like they did. -I feel like that probably came off a little strong, but I don't mean it rudely, I guess I just feel like it's a waste of time and not "real??" IMO just dealing with the akwardness of alone time in elevators w/ co-workers that I don't really know is enough to get me to take the stairs (well and it's about the only excerise I get :))

Hmm...I like it... lol
There are a few restaurants I repeat if I have to eat alone, solely because they know me there :)

I think it gives it that neat "Mayberry" atmosphere :)

Once they know you, you get information on upcoming sales; you get a little extra whipped cream on your dessert; you get special assistance when they hold an item they think you'll like.

I'm such a talker when I'm out that all I have to do is go into a place twice and they'll recognize me. My kids just figure that I know everyone in town. Hopefully, this will help as I start my new insurance sales job in January.

Not only do I get recognized I get holiday cards from local places-like my bank teller, vet, florist, jewelry store, servers at restaurants-even the lady at the local McDonalds where I get my daily diet soda!!!!! I live in a small town and have lived here for most of my life. It is a bit funny, but I love it. I feel very lucky to live in such a great community! My husband laughs about it-he says some people have friends, his wife has vendors!!!!!!! LOL

I was a financial aid advisor at a college. My caseload was 3000 students. I was constantly recognized when I walked around campus. I felt like I was stalked sometimes. Students knew that if they saw me on campus, they could ask all of their financial aid questions without waiting in a long line. I was even followed into the bathroom.:scared1: So, no I do not like being recognized.

In those situations, yes, it like the personal service that comes when you walk into a place where people know you. I miss running into people I know at the store, etc. since we moved but we are getting to the point where we know enough people now that we see people out and about.

I only hate that I don't have to give my address or phone to our local Pizza Hut. They know my voice!!! :rotfl:

Many years ago, a local restaurant had a fund-raiser for our sons' school. On a specified Tuesday night, a percentage of their profits went to our school. So, of course, many families were there that evening. We were seated near the entrance. As people were coming and going, they would stop at our table (DH was very involved in Little League - I was a Cub Scout Leader). A woman and her two adult sons stopped at our table when they left and the woman just had to ask if we were local celebrities, since so many people stopped to talk to us. She didn't know anything about the fundraiser!

It was kinda fun being "recognized" that evening!

I don't mind it, but it does make me embarrassed when I can't remember their name. I always find myself saying, "Hello..... you.....!"

I worked with a couple thousand volunteers overs over the past (almost) four years. I really only remember the names of the folks I work directly with all the time. All the rest are by phone or email for the most part.

So.... HELLO!..... you....!!!

I can't go out in public without hearing, "Hi Miss C!" The life of a teacher. :)

No, not really, unless I know the person.

When I was in the army in Germany, there were almost no women on the post where I was stationed, so everyone knew who all the female soldiers were, you name, where you lived, what your job was, even if you'd never spoken to them. It wasn't as fun as it sounds; it was creepy, even if they didn't mean any harm.

I used to teach in a small town, and I couldn't go anywhere without running into students and their parents. I miss it sometimes, but it's nice being able to go grocery shopping and just buzz through the store.

I HATE IT!

Whenever I go out in public (with "regular" people) and dont want to be recognized I wear a hat to cover my LIME hair and this disguise...

don't be so antisocial.....just smile and say "Hi" and autographs? i give out at least a few a week and this is the response..."is that the whole thing?"

for crying out loud....who cares? do you think the bank actually looks at it? just give me my damn reciept and my bag.

No, it doesn't bother me. I actually like it.

The only time it is bothersome is if I am leaving my work building and get stopped in the parking lot. Usually I am just trying to go to lunch and really don't want to do work right then.

I like it. :) For the most part, the people that recognize me that work in different establishments usually just say a breezy hello and give a genuine smile. That's always nice.
