We are doing a split stay for the 1st time, I am not sure if I will like it but I will do just about anything to stay a few nights a AKL! So we are doing 3 nights resort only at AKL before our package begins at POP. Maily because our jobs are so busy during summer months we need a few days of relaxation
I am just looking for other opinions on split stays.....

Lately we have been doing nothing but split stays. As long as you stay at least three nights in a resort (otherwise you can't settle in) I think it is great. Moving day is the worst but it doesn't bother us that much to pack up.

It is a great way to enjoy a deluxe resort and "cost average" the trip with a moderate or value.

People will say that you should do the better resort second so you don't get let down but I have found that it isn't so bad - you're still at WDW.

Disney will more things for you, etc. to make things easier. For me, though, the move day always feels like a wasted day of vacation. The need to pack, move, and unpack just takes something away from it. Once on a two week stay, I even stayed three places (What was I thinking?) // From opinions I've read on this board, though, I think I'm in the minority.

I do, though, LOVE the ALK (Have never stayed there, but wander the grounds and check out the lodge common areas) on almost every trip before eating in one of the AKL resturants -- yum. Getting a chance to stay there would make me tempted to do a split stay too, despite how much I don't care for moving.

We had APs at Universal for a few years so we would do split stays between Universal & WDW. I find splitting a PITA but Uni's onsite hotels are so awesome and just showing your room key lets onsite guests bypass the regular line, like an unlimited fast pass. :cloud9: We always have to do that stay last. The one time we did Uni 1st, it was so hard to wait in line at WDW!

We've never done a split stay among WDW resorts. Personally, I don't think it's worth the moving time/effort. We do a lot of short stays/long weekends so that's when we splurge on a deluxe resort &/or try something new.

with the wishful hope of a good offer, in feb 2012, we will be doing 4 nites at CR and 4 nites AKL, our first split

DH has vetoed even the mention of one no matter how long the stay at Disney. He wants to unpack completely only once in the first hour or so in the room and not pack up until we're getting ready to leave for the airport! I think I might like trying it but he is so anti-split stay that we can't even discuss it. That's okay! At least we're finally talking about going again after almost four years!!!

I am a fan of split stays. The resort is as much a part of our stay as the parks. Our last trip was 4 days at THV and 3 days at BCV. Loved it!:rotfl2:It was like having two trips in one.

August 2010 was the first time my family and I ever did a split stay at the Contemporary and then the Boardwalk Inn, well we liked it a lot. Now one difference is since we drove from Toronto - Orlando we had our own car and on the day we checked into the Boardwalk Inn we brought our luggage with us, so we didn't need to have WDW move it and use other transportation getting there.

Next month we will be doing our second ever split stay at the Boardwalk Inn and Beach Club.

I forgot to mention that we are renting a car, that will help the move, i love all the answers, gives me things to think about

Absolutely love split stays in June/July 2006 we actually stayed almost a full month starting off at the ASSR then to the BW then to CSR then to POP. Love the idea of a new resort every week. The last time we went stayed AKL and then POP great stay at both just gives you a perspective of the differences among the resorts.
:banana::banana:

I have moved rooms after 5 days... a studio to a 1 BD for the next 15 days at WLV. Thank god my aunt was there and I could just store all my stuff without having to pack but as a general rule, not a big fan on splits.

We've done it several times (our trips are listed in my signature).

Staying at two (or three) different resorts in one trip makes it feel like we are on separate vacations. Each resort has its own "feel" to it. My family's dilemma that we are facing right now is which split stay to do next summer: BCV & AKV, or BCV & BLT (BCV is a MUST DO for us every summer ).

Someone above mentioned something similar.... I highly recommend staying at the deluxe resort AFTER staying at POP. Having stayed at both resorts, I do think it will be a let-down to go from AKV to POP.

You are going to love AKV, by the way!

Love split stays. It gives you a chance to get to enjoy more hotels and a whole new atmosphere.

The only "pain" is packing up your things again (I don't think the actually moving is that bad, you figure it'll take you 30 minutes TOPS to get to the new resort by car then once you check in all you can do is wait, but you can do whatever while you wait so it's not a big deal, definetely does not require a whole day). My suggestion would to be either bring two smaller bags (if you can) and put one resort's stuff in one and one's in another or just unpack half of your stuff at the first resort so when you go to pack up you aren't packing up the things you didn't wear.

Maybe for a very long trip but for trips less than a week I think it is a pain in the behind. I also dislike the possibility of being homeless for part of the day when you switch hotels.

We've done split stays every year since 2007. The first time it was a budget decision (airfare was more than we'd anticipated so instead of 6 nights YC we did 3 nights POR, 3 nights YC) and then it became the norm. This year we are doing a triple split (YC, offsite condo, RPR at Universal). We like trying new places.

We have done split stays in the past. It was OK at the time, but now we just like to settle in at 1 resort.

2 trips in 1 is what I am thinking too! Plus with my goal of staying at every resort (ok wishful thinking) I can do this quicker with split stays

I understand where you are coming from on going to POP then AKV, but our original plan was to go to Universal for a few days before our trip, it changed when DH and I decided that we wanted to relax and not be non stop running for our whole trip. By this time the room we wanted at POP wasn't available with the special we were booked on. I think that we will be ok with it because POP is still better then Motel 6 by far and we will be at the parks a lot, oh and DS age 2 1/2 is going to love the large icons around the resort.
AKV is time to relax and enjoy the resort, POP is more like a place to sleep, I hope that makes since.

Oh and thanks for saying we will love AKV, it looks like a great resort for my family. Now that I understand point rental I probably would have loved to stay there our whole visit, maybe next time
