Google Rachel ray's recipe. It is ds15's favorite meal, and so easy. I cheat and use refrigerated mashed potatoes. I use ground turkey (which is defrosting in my fridge now - making it this week).

I agree with this. Rachel Rays is the one I use. The only difference is I season the potatoes more. My kids LOVE it. One of their favorites.

I love it, but it just takes too long to make.

If I have my own mushrooms on hand, I'll make my own gravy for the beef. If I don't, then I just use a can of cream of mushroom soup (one of the flavored ones). I'll swap out the corn for green beans sometimes, but always mashed potatoes on top and melted cheese.

We love shepherds pie in our house. Though I have now learned, thanks to this thread, it is actually cottage pie we love.

Cottage pie and shepherd's pie have been somewhat interchangeable terms for well over a century. The meat used doesn't have to be beef or lamb and in fact, originally, whatever meat was on hand was used.

It's a traditional recipe here in Quebec. The standard recipe includes mashed potatoes, creamed corn and ground beef, and is eaten with ketchup. It sounds weird but it's a very popular dish, especially among children. In my family, we sometimes switch the mashed potatoes for something (slightly!) healthier : carrot, sweet potato or turnip puree, for instance. We sometimes switch the beef for lamb - we've tried pork but it's a bit too dry, even with loads of ketchup It looks something like this :

We do the same.. I was a teen before I knew what it was.. We always called it Pate Chinois.

I follow the recipe for the filling, and make my standard mashed potatoes for the top. I make mine with gold potatoes (skins on and lumpy), lots of butter, and a little milk or heavy cream.

Once the weather cools down, we do shepherd or cottage pie often. I use Gordon Ramsay's recipe because provided you check your tomato paste, it's a gluten free meal (though check your gluten free person doesn't have any dairy issues. I am lucky in that mine does not).
