Lucky. It's cold and snowy here in the Northeast of the USA.

Well, I like snow! My country has milder winters now, and I live in the south of it. It's pretty much warm. Only when winds arise is cold, but that doesn't happen too often. We sometimes don't get snow for 3-4 yrs. And that is winter. Snow!

Yes, classical music, opera, and ballet. Love it all! Always have. My father and brother are professional musicians and my grandparents met playing the violin, so I’ve just always been around it. During college I spent a summer interning with an opera company. Later on I worked for one of the constituents at Lincoln Center. At my NYC college I took two opera appreciation classes and my professor was an adjunct at both my school and Julliard. His classes were amazing. Too many favorites to list any pieces. Oh, and 80's music rocks as well!

A few months ago my son randomly asked me, “Hey mom, what’s your favorite song?” I replied, “The Brahms Requiem. What’s yours?”

I do think snow is a nice look in the winter though.

I enjoy and respect most any genre of music and the other arts it inspires. In classic dance my preference is modern as opposed to ballet probably due to historical prejudices prevalent during my youth. I studied both art forms nevertheless.

I love everything from classical to rap to Broadway. Not big on opera except a few but definitely appreciate the art of it. Only thing I really can’t do is new country. Just yuck.

Opera is such art. Do you like ballet too? I love both, they mesmerize me. Feel free to post some you like.

I do love ballet as well. Our daughter used to live walking distance from the Lincoln Center in NYC, so when I would visit, we always made a point to see something special there. A favorite ballet of mine is Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty.

As to the operas, I really like traditional productions in the grand style. Since those are so expensive to produce, many are being staged in a more modern way, with mixed results.
I pick and choose carefully now and only buy tickets to traditional productions.

A fun thing was that our local movie theater was showing filmed operas from the Met. Now, of course, with covid, none of this is going on, but someday again...

I like classical and ballet but don’t like opera. But I also don’t like hip hop and rap either. I would say I really do like pretty much any other style of music however.

Never grew to appreciate classical music or opera.....
I do love Broadway music though!

I think as, eith anything, it jsut depends on the peice of music. I live classical, but not all classical - I'm not knowledgeable enough to give examples, but it jsut depends. THe same is true for Opera. I had an opportunity to see an opera production in High School, Carmen, and I rather enjoyed it. I may enjoy certian peices here and there, but I wouldn't generally call myself an oepra fan - still I wouldn't complain about it either.

Well, even as a fan of operatic singing, I know it's not for everybody's ear. Sometimes, opera can be...overwhelming in a sort of way. Ballet is gentler overally, and classical lifts me everytime. I do now then pause from it all, altogether. So I listen to rock or other genres. Then I return to classical, o&b again. While listening to them, I write some poetry. They fuel the fire of creation I think more than other genres do.

Oh another thing. Opera pieces have some AMAZING text lyrics in them. The lyrics combined with the technique of dramatic singing and acting while performing makes the viewer feel too deeply.
