I am in a wedding this weekend. Well, actually all 3 of us are. I was NOT supposed to be in it, but SIL's Fiancee's Sister got PG and was due today (she had her baby on Saturday.)

She dropped out (understandably) and asked me to fill in. I, of course, said yes, but I HATE being in weddings. I do love my SIL though and that's why I said I would do it. Plus I think it is going to be difficult with DD. She is not known for standing (or sitting) still very long.

I'm sure it will be fine and we will get some nice pictures. But I can't wait for it to be over!

Anyone else not like being in weddings?

I've been in 13 weddings.

I didn't mind it so much when I was younger, but after a certain age, one feels a tad bit ridiculous standing there in what basically feels like a prom dress. After age 35, I had to start declining bridesmaid requests. I made an exception for my sister, but only because she let me pick out the dress.

I have been in 12 (not including mine) but I completely agree with you. When you are young, it is fun and everyone makes a big deal over you, but as you get older, it isnt as much fun. Plus you have to buy your own dress, which you will never wear again.

Definitely depends on whose wedding it is! If it's a close friend, then it's fun!

I was asked last year to be in a wedding for a friend of a friend. At first I said yes, and then realized I was going to be shelling out a lot of money for someone I barely knew. So I backed out and we haven't talked since!

Anyway, I think in the right circumstances, it's fun!

I've been in one, and that was one too many.

I've been in 2 (not counting my stint as a flower girl) and I was Matron of Honor for both. I was thrilled to be asked, but found that the responsibility was too much. I'm not good at throwing showers, etc. and that's a lot of added cost. Luckily, I was able to share the duties with another Maid of Honor in both weddings. I'm going to be a bridesmaid in 2 more next year and am actually looking forward to both. Mostly because all I'll have to do is show up!

I absolutely hate it!
When I got married, I only had a maid of honor (my sister), I told her "wear what you want".
She said the same to me when she got married, everybody was happy!

Ugh! I HATE being in weddings. Unless some friends in a large group of friends are getting married, it's awful. Not only that, I don't even like to ATTEND weddings! It's like going to a party when the only people you know are the bride & groom and believe me, they don't have time to sit with you and introduce you to everyone! Plus, I'm not much for dressing up anymore. I've discovered that as I get older, I'd rather be comfortable than fashionable!

I'll give you a bridal shower gift, pick a nice gift from your registry, and send an RSVP of regrets! That way - they're happy - the got their gift and good wishes, and I'm happy - I don't have to go!

No thank you!

I've been in about 8 weddings (including my own). Luckily all my friends are married now. ;) I only have a closet full of bridesmaids gowns to remember the events by. Yes, I kept every last one of them. Well, except for my wedding gown. I threw that in a salvation army bin when exh irritated me one day. :p

ETA: Oops, I forgot to answer your question! I used to LOVE being in weddings. Until the last one where I spent more than I did on my own wedding (this was about 5 years ago). And I only saw the bride once since then...she came to my baby shower. At least she gave a nice gift. ;)

didn't even want to be in my own!

seriously, I can't stand the whole wedding thing - standing in front of the church for what seems like an eternity, the expensive dresses and shoes you never wear again, the parties, the gifts, etc.,

All my friends do me the honor of not including me in the ceremony. LOL. Even my own wedding was held outside without any bridesmaids.

This weekend I just went to a great wedding though - so much better when you have no responsibilty than to drink and have fun!

I've only been in one wedding besides my own (which I should've missed) and had a near miss this summer. I think it's highly over-rated.

Then again, I've never been really high maintenance or girly-girly, so maybe that has something to do with it.

The whole process, shower, bachelorette party, etc., is a bit much.

I HATE weddings!!! I hate attending, I hate being in them. I hated my own wedding. I wanted to get married on a beach in the caribbean. I wasn't "allowed" to. I think weddings are just a big show and if I never attend another one, I will be happy.

But how do you really feel?:p :p

Lat summer I was a bridesmaid in two weddings within two weeks. I've never spent so much money on ugly dresses in my life! One of the brides kind of turned into a Bridezilla and I couldn't wait for the wedding to be over. I adore my friends and I'd do anything to help them, but my bridesmaid days are over :teeth:

HATE IT!!! I hate going to them too!! Being in a wedding is a waste of money to me....last wedding I was in: dress 190.00-hoop for dress 30.00-strapless bra for dress 25.00-shoes + dye to match dress 50.00-Bridal shower (it gets split between all the women in the wedding party so) was about $200 each-then the bridal shower gift at least 50.00...then the wedding gift-anywhere between 100-200...oh and cant forget to add the cost of getting your hair done-between 50-100.....WAY to much for a one day affair!! When all is said and done it can cost about $1,000 to be a member of the wedding party!!No thanks, I will sit them out whenever possible!

I hate them, too. My girlfriends knew better than to ask me, they'd ask my sister who they barely knew! My sister LOVES being in them... I'd prefer being drawn and quartered.... :p

I didn't mind it much when I was younger, but now that I am over 40, I think I'd have a problem with some of the fou-fou dresses.

I came here to read the Hurricane threads but I just couldn't pass this one up. I'm currently in my first wedding (besides my own). While I was increadably honored to be asked I'm starting to realize why people really hate the the bridesmaid gig.

When it's all said and done I'll have spend more than $1000. I love the bride and groom and wouldn't dream of turning them down but I am feeling the pressure.

I have 2 more that I know I'll be asked to be in and that I can't turn down but I think I'll skip any other friends weddings.

I think the last one I will have to be in is my Brothers. On vacation he asked us what we would think if he elpoed. I told him to "go for it!" And I would throw him a party when he got back. ;)
Just don't make me wear another dress! I would do it though if he asked me. Especially since my then 18 year old Brother bawled like a baby at my wedding.

I actually don't mind my bridesmaid dress this time. It's cornflower blue, strapless, and has a tie at the waist. I got it altered and it fits like a glove. LOL! And DD's dress is really pretty. SIL had me help her pick it out. So we should at least look good. :p

I also threw a shower for SIL and attended one of her other ones. I missed the third shower and the bachlorette party. 2 was enough for me!
