IMHO, the best (and only) type of BBQ is the Eastern North Carolina, whole hog, vinegar based sauce barbecue.

Makes my mouth water just thinking about it!!!!

I got all excited about this when I read the title; as I clicked the thread I realized I wasn't thinking of same thing. Mostly I don't; maybe one or two items, but no.

I am ambivalent about it. I don't go out of my way to get it, but if DH or the kids want to eat at a BBQ restuarant, hey that's fine. I don't see what the big deal is, though.

Not always correct. . BBQ involves cooking with wood. Hence, the smoked flavor. People misnamed grills as BBQ Grills. If it is smoked it basically is BBQ, Though they just call salmon smoked, but that is becasue it is cold smoked rather than hot smoked. BBQ is smoked at about 225 degrees. Cold smoked items get smoked at 85 - 100 degrees.

Ya can't debate me here. This is one area where I am an expert, as I have been thisclose to opening a BBQ joint. I cook whole hogs regularly. I've read literally 50 books on BBQ. I have 3 BBQ awards, the highest being 2nd place for brisket.

EDIT: Gas and electricity my supplement the wood for consistent heat, but BBQ has wood / smoke.

I like it. Has to be cooked nicely. My biggest complaint is sauce. So many places just somther it in a sauce that I end up not caring for the taste of that I don't normally order it.

Funny BBQ story. I have friends who have been doing this BBQ contest for several years. They had this theory that the judges had NO idea what they were talking about when it comes to BBQ.

So, they decided on a "secret sauce" for one of their entries. It won. We laughed. I think it was their last year for awhile anyway.

The secret sauce took them months to get enough of..................




McDonald's chicken nugget BBQ sauce packets.

I would like to know who are the "Never really had it" people. How could you go through life and never try BBQ?? I just don't see how it is possible.

I have a whole fridge full of BBQ leftovers that I doubt will get eaten.

I've lived in a few places known for BBQ and I still don't get why people go wild over it.

I like bbq as much as the person, but with all due respect to Mr Deuce, you seem to have almost an obsession with smoked meat.
