Do You Lie or Tell the Truth?

I ended up in an interesting situation the other day. My niece is obsessed with WDW. She's 11 years old and thinks it's the best thing ever. She was going on and on about WDW and then asked if I'd go with them sometime. Without thinking, I said sure.

Honestly if I won a free trip to WDW, I'm not sure I'd go back. Is there anything wrong with lying and telling her I can't go?

I'm not going to tell her I have no desire to go. That would be mean. Plus my sister would assume I don't want to go with them, which is not true.

But, you said that you DON'T want to go to WDW,
which means that if they are going there, you don't want to go with them.

Why lie? Just tell them you don't like WDW and you don't want to go. It's better than agreeing to go and having a miserable time. I've noticed from experience that when someone really doesn't like WDW and doesn't want to be there, they tend to drag the rest of the group's fun level down, whether they mean to or not.

If you won a free trip you wouldn't go back, but you just signed up for a Dis account this month? :confused3

I think poster said (to her niece), "without thinking she said sure" but if she won a trip she was not sure she would go. :thumbsup2

Never said I wasn't a Disney fan. I hate what WDW has become. I'd rather remember as it was between 86 and 08.

Don't lie to her. Why would she trust you the next time? Be honest and tell her you don't want to go. Or go and instead of focusing on what you don't like about WDW, revel in her joy.

This is the weirdest place for someone NOT obsessed with WDW to hang and chat...?
One has nothing to do with the other.
I believe there are plenty of people here that are not obsessed; myself being one of them . . .
You can have interest without obsession.

This is my second account. I couldn't manage to reset the password on the old one. I've been on here since 2010 but took a long break.

Totally get that but he/she doesn't sound like she has interest. It just seemed very odd to me (and the person doesn't seem like a troll -- if he/she was a troll, then it would make sense)

No I'm still a Disney fan. I still like to keep up to date on what's going on but I've lost my gusto for the parks. It's hard to put it into words. I went from hardcore to :( in the span of two years.

why not just go for the the child.. the child wants you there doing something nice for someone else... maybe having a kid who is having a great time with you will make the trip more enjoyable next time

gotcha :)

Have they officially asked you to go on the trip? Or is this "someday". If it's someday, I wouldn't worry about it for one second. If you get invited along you can weigh your desire to go against your desire to make your niece happy. I never worry about "some days"
