DD wore my christening dress from 1967 and I still have it hanging nicely in the cedar closet. I hope to one day pass it down to her children and so on and so on.

This is really sweet! We have a similar gown in our family, although it's only half as old. It was made by my grandmother for her sister's kids (my mom's cousins) - all 3 of them have worn it, and all of their children and grandchildren have worn it. My brothers and sisters and I all wore it, and all of our kids have worn it too. Let's see, I think in total that's 3 generations and 22 babies in about 55 years.

My mother gave me my Christening gown before I got married. It's in the gift wrapped box (the lid still has the wrapping paper on it) that it was given to her in.

I still have the dress, slip that was worn underneath, hat, little shoes and blanket!

Since it's very lacy and feminine, there is no way that I could've passed it on to my two boys!

I have my christening dress and the slip and booties also. I don't have the bonnet though.
Mine is also very girly looking and I didn't want to put my son in it.
Maybe someday he will have a little girl and they will need a Christening dress and I can pass it on.

My kids (well, we never did christen the cats) will be baptized in our family gown that was made in the early 1860s. My great-great-grandfather was baptized in the same gown.

I have my christening gown and the same box as my wedding dress and the two bridesmaids dresses I wore when I was younger.

That's really beautiful! I have no idea where mine is. My Mother probably threw it out.

I preserved Brittany's, the same way you preserve a wedding gown.

Her's was so beautiful! I bought it a Saks. It has a double skirt w/ loose flower peddles floating between the two layers. It's made from raw silk.

Everybody was just in "awah" when they saw it.

Because of our beliefs we do not christen our babies but we do have a ceremony and 'dedicate' them. I used a white dress for my dd but not a gown. The dress I had was beautiful but I've always wished I would have put her in a gown. When my neice was born I made a gown for her. It was so much fun to make, you can really get creative with the tucks, pleats and lace on those things. My mother is storing the gown now and I hope my neice will use it for her children someday.

Mine is at my mom's house. It was made in 1968 from the velvet train of her wedding dress. It has been worn my my sister and I and our daughters. Now is in the cedar chest for our childrens's children.

Yes I do, it's in a box in my daughters closet. My great-grandmother hand made it over 80 years ago for my grandmother to wear, I wore it as well, as did my DD at her baptism.

Mine is stored in a cedar chest at my parent's house.

It was made from the train of my mom's wedding gown. My 2 sisters and I all wore it, my three kids wore it, and my niece and nephew wore it. It is absolutely gorgeous, and came with a matching coat, slip and bonnet all made from my mom's wedding gown train. My husband wasn't thrilled about putting my son in it, but my dad also bought him a tiny Notre Dame baseball hat to wear with it. The priest got a kick out of that!

I've got mine, the booties are in their original box with the card my aunt put inside lets say over 30 years ago and finally after 5 children, I had a girl who could wear it. She looked like an old fashioned doll in it. I only hope she, or one of my boys has a daughter that they would want to wear it.

I don't have mine, but I have the ones my children wore. My mother made DS's dress and I made DD's. By the way, I embroidered the date and name in tan on the slip of each dress, so through the years we'll have a record of who wore them.

In 1972, my oldest daughter was the last baby in our family to use the christening gown hand made by my great grandmother. It was made in the early 1900's and was used first by grandmother for her first child's christening (my uncle). It was used by all four children, and I don't know how many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. My godmother has always been the family member to take care of the dress. When my sister had her daughter in 1989, my mother and I bought her a beautiful Feltman Bros. dress. My sister and I will both use this dress for any future grandchildren.
In the South, it is perfectly acceptable for boys to wear dresses for christenings. I have a picture of my son on his 1st birthday in a precious buttoned suit with embroidered bluebirds and tiny ruffles on the yoke. The same son who was in the Marines and is now in the Navy reserves!!

My SIL's wedding dress was stored at her mother's house and they had a terrible house fire.

The dress was badly burned but there was enough left to make a christening gown out of it. She had two boys, so she gave it to her sister who had two girls and they both wore it. She still had some left over afterwards that was in good condition, and she somehow made it into a wedding photo album cover. It's beautiful!
