Do you know if your work scans your Email???

HI DIS friends,


MY DH thinks that may be going on at his work. Reason is that 30% of the time I won't get his emails until a full 24 hours later??


Is that a sign of screening emails?

Do you think your work's company does the same?

I thought I saw that being practiced on the news one time.

I think any company that has a server does scan the incoming and outgoing emails. That delay could signal inspection going on....

Our company auto-filters them by looking for keywords that indicate spam (like words about illegal activities, prescription drugs, etc.). Those emails are quarantined, and we don’t typically get the quarantine report (where you can choose to read or delete the emails) until later. This is also typically done to prevent computer viruses from spreading. It is highly doubtful that a living person is reading his emails.

Or it could simply be the sign of a significantly overloaded (mail) server. We installed a new mail server at the start of last year. It that time we were averaging 5000 - 6000 pieces of spam which it had to filter out on a given day (and this is for a company of 24 employees only 20 of which have email) before delivering the real mail to our inboxes. The last I checked, are now filtering out close to ten times as much per day!

I know that the two companies DH has worked for scan or can scan emails. It doesn't usually slow the delivery process since they can just view them as needed BUT they have had server issues that has caused delays in email transmissions.

Emails that I send to my DH's city email address frequently have a lag and if there are attachments, they get quarantined.

I know they scan them. Of course, I didn't find out about it, until I sent an "I'm so sorry about that fight last night" email.

All places dh has worked have had people hired for "Internet Security".
It is a permanent job.

From what my dh has said ALL emails are scanned electronically and it picks up key words and then people get "flagged".

Then if they see a pattern or see certain words continually pop up then you get marked and they watch your emails.
Then you get fired if you do something against company policy.

He has seen many people get fired. Mostly it is for Porn.

In most large companies mail thats going to/coming from an external source goes through filters to scan for bugs/viruses etc. This will definitely cause a delay.

It is part of my job to review everything that gets stuck in our mail filter. I quickly scan the item to make sure it's not spam or something inappropriate. Yes, a lot of personal emails are intercepted, however as soon as I realise they're legitimate emails I just send them on. I have no interest reading other people's email. If I wanted to do that I'd just go in to their mailbox - the systems department here has full access to all mailboxes anyway...

What really gets me is how many chain letters and "funny" or "cute" pictures people send and receive every day. Those all go in the bin.

My DH is involved with this too..
the larger the company the worse the email and visiting bad sites seems to be. At his place of employment they just started blocking all retail and porn sights. I think many people have no clue what others do at work....and it's not pretty.
