All kidding aside...WHEW! Thank goodness it's done:banana:

Wow you're good! I thought that was what phones and e-mail were invented for :lmao:

No, but I can tell you how long it takes an 8, 9, and 11 year old to do it! :lmao:

Ok, we are bad. In our family we have made a little exception for Christmas presents and do not have the kids send thank you notes. Instead we call the giver on the phone so the kids can say thank you, talk for a few minutes and say Merry Christmas.

The family members are all cool with this as they really love to talk to the kids and hear them thank them for the gift and then they can ask questions about it, etc.

Birthdays though I am officially "mean mom". I have them write their thank you notes no later than the day after their birthday...the threat being "no playing with the new thing until the thank you note is written".

Amazing how willing a child is to write a thank you note when told that.

I wrote ours and had the 4 year old sign her name and the baby scribbled a bit. I can only imagine how long it will take in the years to come!

Not fun, huh?;)

Actually, I really can't complain. After years of writing them, they pretty much have it down now. Even my ds - 8 does a great job on his own. I'm actually very proud of them. :goodvibes It's just getting them to actually sit down and do it when they're surrounded by all those cool toys and things!;)

I have a 12 YO DD, and she writes the best thank-you notes. When DH's family was over for Christmas, she sat down and wrote them right after the last guest left. These were in the mail on 12/26!

It wasn't always this easy, just the last couple of years. She really makes them personal too. I.e. this year she received a small GC to a cool candy store that DD really likes. She mentioned to the giver that she will be keeping a close eye on this GC, just in case her dad felt the need to "um, take it off her hands." Now, DH would NEVER do that, but DH is also known for having a sweet tooth on occasion.

As a matter of fact I do. Now that the kids are 14 and 11 it goes MUCH faster only it takes them longer to get started on the job!

Hang in there all you Mom's who think it is so important to write thank you notes...I did growing up, my Mom had all my sisters and bro writing them for every occasion that we all received a gift. Fastforward, I as well, taught my DS' from an early age (obviously when they could write) that it was of the utmost importance that they THANK the person/relative that sent them a gift IN WRITING. I do have many friends that feel 1) if you are in the room when the gift is opened, you can verbally say thank you and no need for a t.y. card, 2) calling the person on the phone to thank them as vs a t.y. card and 3) send them an email as vs mailing a t.y. card!!! Well I do not happen to believe in any of that....oh yes, thank them for sure while opening the gift (if they are in the room with you) and for sure thank them if they call before your card arrives!!!

Well, my DS' are 24&21yo now and most of my family is on vacation in Europe. My oldest DS just came from Europe so he is back in the States on holiday with his DGF. A few days after Christmas we were talking on the phone and he was telling me all the fabulous gifts he received from DGF's Family and quickly followed-up with..."And Mom, I bought the nicest Thank You cards at the Hallmark Store today to send to all DGF's Family for all the lovely gifts"!!!!

Made me feel so good that all those years of hours spent sitting at the dining room table getting them to complete their Thank You Notes has paid off.

HANG IN THERE!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR from the "City of Light" PARIS. It is now 1:15am and so far the year 2007 has been fabulous....:lmao: (all one hour of it)....we are all so tired from a full day as tourists and dinner...yup nighty night all!!!!

:yay: :yay:
