my almost 12 year old daughter called me at work just now and told me she wanted to read me a story:

Pony

There was a girl named Abigail
Who was taking a drive
Through the country
With her parents
When she spied a beautiful sad-eyed
Grey and white pony.
And next to it was a sign
That said,
FOR SALE--CHEAP.
"Oh," said Abigail,
"May I have that pony?
May I please?"
And her parents said,
"No you may not."
And Abigail said,
"But I MUST have that pony."
And her parents said,
"Well, you can have a nice butter pecan
Ice cream cone when we get home."
And Abigail said,
"I don't want a butter pecan
Ice cream cone,
I WANT THAT PONY--
I MUST HAVE THAT PONY."
And her parents said,
"Be quiet and stop nagging--
You're not getting that pony."
And Abigail began to cry and said,
"If I don't get that pony I'll die."
And her parents said, "You won't die.
No child ever died yet from not getting a pony."
And Abigail felt so bad
That when she got home she went to bed,
And she couldn't eat,
And she couldn't sleep,
And her heart was broken,
And she DID die--
All because of a pony
That her parents wouldn't buy.
(This is a good story
To read to your folks
When they won't buy
You something you want.)

and then she told me she'd just die if we didn't go back to WDW this year.

I survived, but when I was 12 I was sure I WOULD die if I didn't have one...

(I am sending a copy of the poem to my parents, though!)

Whenever I asked my dad for something and he said "no", I'd say I really, really wanted it. He always responded with a question: How old are you? I'd tell him and he'd say, "Well, you're old enough so your wants ought not to hurt you."

And yes, to this day I've never figured out what he meant by that! 'Cept that I'm still around and managed to survive until adulthood without getting everything I wanted.

I think your DD will survive if you don't make it to WDW this year.

Gotta love Shell Silverstein (sp) books. I use to have 3 of them and I remember that story, if only I can remember what book that was in!!

it was "A Light in the Attic".

Well, Briar Rose, it may never have happened yet, but won't youo feel bad if your DD is the first? Best not to risk it...;)

Thank you Briar Rose. It was driving me crazy I was going to have to make a few phone calls to find out the book, now there is no need, you solved it for me!!!

I think your DD IS ABSOLUTLY RIGHT! You better not chance it, get on the phone to Disney!

Well I'm still here but I really really really wanted a monkey but never got one:mad:   Every time I see Michael Jackson and his chimp I cry for what could have been.

Briar Rose if you do not want your daughter in therapy over watching Mr Ed reruns I suggest you give in jus this once;)

Cute. :teeth:

In answer to the question, a true story:

I know a woman (NOT me) who, as a child, was promised a horse for Christmas. She was ecstatic, and told all her friends at school.

And she did in fact get a "horse" for Christmas.

A stuffed one.

To say she was disappointed would be an understatement.

It's my understanding that the parents weren't at all sympathetic to her reaction on Christmas Day. I guess they figured the girl should have known all along that she couldn't possibly be getting a REAL horse for a gift, although they had implied otherwise.

This same woman, as a child, attempted suicide by hanging.

Now, whether or not there was any correlation I'll leave you to wonder. ;)

My Dad was very non-commital when I kept asking him for a "pony" as a child.. The answer was always "someday"..

Well - he's gone on to Heaven now and I still don't have my pony.. Something tells me that when I get there though (providing I'm good enough to get there - LOL) my Daddy is going to be standing there waiting for me with the best pony ever!! ::yes::

Something similar to Flaps friend happened to me (except for the attempted suicide) this is a true story.

When I was 21 my parents asked me what I wanted for my birthday, and all I could think of was a Datsun 280Z my dream car. I wanted a red one. Well the birthday came and no car out front but a huge box in the living room in it was a Daschund puppy (long haired red) and its name was Zee! So my dad says theres your datsun Z. Me and the dog never really bonded
:smooth:

Well, you know...I have a friend who knows a friend who this happened to...;) Take the little sweetie to WDW while she still wants to be seen with you! No wait...this is the kinder and gentler board...It would be the nice thing to do!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Oh my God that is HYSTERICAL!!!:teeth: I have 2 of those, shorthaired red ones!:p

My dd is only 5 and started the want a pony thing already. I think I'll take her to a pony "farm" or what have you and wait for one to poop, I think that will change her mind! LOL! (She doesn't like the zoo because of the way it smells!)

No, but I have known of people who have died for lack of a vacation.

Better take your DD to WDW, quick!! ;)
