Do you keep your luggage with you or have it delivered to your room?

Trying to decide if we should keep our bags with us or check them when we board the Disney transport bus.

My husband is afraid something will happen to our luggage (both are under 22 inches we carry them on the plane).
Has anyone had bad experiences?
Do many people lug their bags around with them? I think it would be a pain to do.

we try to take the minimum carry on's onto the ship - just what we need.

I would keep your rollerboards with you - if you are boarding shortly before 1:30 or afterwards so you can ditch them in your room. If arriving earlier, then give them to the porters.

If it fits the carry-on scanner.... I would bring it with your valuables. If it does not fit the scanner.... you need to have it delivered. Hopefully it does not fall into the water during the transfer. A few times a year around the world.... luggage falls into the water in the media.

My plans.....
  1. find out where they are serving the lunch MDR. Not interested in hunting for a empty buffet table balancing food in one hand and luggage in another. The buffet is chaotic enough.... tripping over luggage is worse.
  2. secure a table and order my meals. Otherwise get food for the rest of the party
  3. run out solo for dining changes and/or collect tickets
  4. check navigator to see what's available and plan my embarkation day
  5. deliver luggage solo to my room when the cabin is ready
  6. eat before they close the MDR

I used to feel the same way as your DH, and for years, I carried my own luggage. Then I took a deep breath and finally let DME handle it. In the many years that I've let DME handle it (at least 15 trips), there's only been ONE error. That's when DME delivered my luggage to the wrong room at the resort. And since I'd changed rooms at check-in from the one I'd originally been assigned, it's understandable. The error was as much the fault of the resort.

I like when Disney makes my luggage disappear and magically shows up in my stateroom. We even stay at Disney approved hotels so they take our luggage the morning we leave for the ship.

On embarkation day in the MDR it's still a buffet. But you are seated and they bring your drinks and it is possible to put small luggage or carry ons under the table. We've given up going to the buffet on embarkation. Much nicer to be seated in the MDR and take your time. Definitely less chaotic.

We have a 10:45 PAT.
We're hoping to have lunch and maybe swim, so they would be a pain to keep an eye on.

So are you taking *any* carryons on? Camera, medications, etc? If you're taking any carryons on then you'll still have to deal with them. Since you use carryon sized luggage as luggage anyway, it might not be any more or less of a pain to deal with.

PAT at that time, they start letting people onboard at some point between 11 and noon, you go and have lunch, then go change into your swimsuits if you aren't wearing them under your clothes...by that time it's nearly time for rooms to be ready anyway, so...

Sounds like you are minimalists anyway, and one does want to be prepared by taking some stuff on yourself (I bring a rolling bag with all my dresses, my shoes, a day's worth of clothing, and my swimsuits even when I have other bags checked), so would it really benefit you to send them on separate from you?

That's kinda what I was thinking too while going back and forth about it.
We will have a smaller bag with our camera, medications, etc.
