Do you keep the Towel Animals?

We have never received towel animals, altho I love the pics. Our mousekeeper, however, did set up a tea party with all my DD stuffed animals and left some looking out the window for us when we came back from the parks. We thought it was so cute.

Wrong, they are yours to take. Our mousekeeper made us a towel basket with stickers all over it and came to my door on check out morning and said it was ours to keep and take home.

That is TRULY cute!!~ :wizard:

Wow, I guess I never realized that people take them home! I myself wouldn't even think about taking it home because I'm sure that they will have to recoup the money somewhere and I dont' want to be the one to pay for it.

I do have to admit that they add some extra magic to your vacation!

We took our first bunnies on our first onsite trip. Having never seen such a thing before the kids loved them and wouldn't part with them. My youngest DD came along years later and got her first angel so I let her keep it. After all she had pleaded with her big sister for years to give her the bunnie but big sis refused! Now I have a confession to make. At the Poly mousekeeping made me a large monkey swinging from leis stretched from one bamboo canopy to the other! It was sooooo cute that I did indeed keep it! I knew by then that taking towel animals wasn't allowed so I called down to the front desk ans asked to speak to the GM, Michael. The CM asked what the problem was and I told her about this monkey. She said to go ahead and take it! I told her they could bill me for what looked like two towels and she laughed and said no thanks, enjoy!

Wow. No, I do not take home towel animals. I take photos of them and that's it.

It wouldn't occur to me to call housekeeping or the manager to ask if I could have them either. What the ????

To me, it's a nice touch that is left in your room to amuse you. Sure - they're cute, but I take pictures and admire the magic only found at Disney World (or on a cruise) and that's that. I mean, I've seen pretty cute waiters onboard a cruise ship, but I don't try to take them home with me. hehe

Now if they put a little printed card with the towel animal saying it was a gift, okay. Especially if they're using old towels and trying to get rid of them.

I have to admit, if I saw someone carrying these out with their luggage, I would probably do a double-take.

Whatever floats your towel!!:earseek:

Hmmmmm....let's see...... $250 for one night, and taking a 1$ washcloth that was given to you as a gift is stealing....... :rotfl:

I never ASKED to take them. I was TOLD to take them by the mousekeeper that knocked on my door asking me if I liked it. I think your attitude stinks implying that the rest of us that have taken our creations are theives when we were TOLD it was okay to do so.

You know, I was asked for my opinion and I gave it. I wasn't trying to be mean - and I wasn't attacking anyone. If someone says you can take it home and invites you to do so - go for it.

I just meant that the thought never crossed my mind to take one of these cute things home. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Hmmmmm...let's see....next year the rate for that room will be $251.

Towels are not "gifts". They are items to be used while you are staying at the resort or on the cruise. Disney only tells those who ask yes because they say yes to just about everything.

Of course it's a gift when they tell you to keep it.

Do you take the pictures off the walls too?? They're there for your enjoyment too! Or how about the beach towels from the pool??

Next time I'm gonna get me some free beach towels! I could use some new ones!! LOL

You're trying hard to justify your actions, but the bottom line is you're driving up the costs for all of us. Buy yourself a stuffed animal if you want something cute to take home.

:duck: I was actually given a framed picture to take home. I don't think it came off the wall in our room though.

These threads just really get on my nerves. NEVER ask these questions on these boards. Will you folks ever learn. If you want the OFFICIAL word, ask Disney. Don't ask about refillable mugs, poolhopping, room occupancy limits, or towel animals. It only brings out the self righteous, holier than thou, we have never sinned against Walt, Disney Police. If a REALLLL employee of WDW tells you that you can have a towel animal, then it is yours. I work in law enforcement and I can promise you that when you are given permission to take an item or use an item by a representative of a company (ie: a WDW CM), then it is in no way theft. You people who have the nerve to tell someone they are a thief because they take something that a WDW CM told them to take are losers in the truest sense of the word. You people make me sick sometimes. There are thousands dead and millions without homes because of the Tsunami and you people are upset because a Disney employee dare give away a three dollar towel creation. You people really need to get out more.

Before these boards, I always thought the Disney employees knew of what they spoke, when they gave us info.
Our first trip to Disney with grands (before ever reading these boards), a towel animal was left for both grandchildren. They were thrilled, and they (2 and 3) assumed it was a gift left for them. I gave them each a dollar (since I had been taught to never steal the towels, and we brought their "animals" to the front desk, patiently waited in line for them to go up to the desk, where they asked if they could buy their animals. The gal said, oh my, those are yours honey, made special just for you. You can take those home with you. After a quick stop to spend the dollar they each had in the store, we returned to our room, with two very excited kids, who couldn't wait to tell their mom. Fast forward a few years to these boards, and I find out that my grandchildren (with my help), are theives:(
We've never had the urge to take more (only because my daughter is tired of the dusty ones they kept from before, which still has a place of honor on each dresser), so hopefully we are back on the right track.

I had never seen a post re: taking home towel creations before this one. The thought had never popped into my mind (probably because I've never taken children to WDW who would look at me with sad eyes wanting to take a cute little towel creature home). Now that I've read the various opinions, it definitely makes me think differently about it. If a Disney CM offers it as a gift or tells you when you ask that you can take it home, I think it is fine to take. I tend to have a vivid imagination (and worry about things) - and could just see an angry resort manager chasing me down to get back that towel elephant. :D

This topic really makes me stop and think about what I assume in first impressions. In the future, if I see someone (child or adult) carrying one out to their car, I'll smile and think about the happy memories they'll take home with them. It's good to hear other viewpoints.

No, they don't belong to me--- they are washclothes and like other washcloths and towels, belong to the resort... they are only there to amuse, not to take.

I agree. Why not just take a picture of one instead?

I am a mousekeeper in CBR. We have been told by our managers that it is fine if guests take the towel buddies home with them. They fully expect people to. The towel buddies are all part of the magic, to make your stay just a little bit better. Not ways of trying getting better tips.

Now I really never thought that it was an option. If what you posted is a fact ( not really doubting you but am surprised) I think I will take one after I ask.

Why is everyone getting so worked up about basically NOTHING? Some people were told that they COULD take the rag animals home by the mousekeeping, others were told by management that NO, they were not to be taken home. I tend to listen to the person who has the most authority in the situation. I don't think this is worth all the high blood pressure and flaming. If you were told OK... then OK, if you weren't and you didn't that is good too. I never would have thought to take them home but saw others doing it, so out of curiosity asked a manager and was told that no, but that many people do.

I think this thread has just about run its course!
