does the way someone types have an effect on your opinion of them? as far as their maturity/intelligence.
i used to be a major grammar nazi online, but lately i just havent been caring as much. i have even begun replacing the word 'you' with the letter 'u' :scared1:

but honestly the way a person types doesnt reflect on how i perceive them as a person. i have known a lot of v intelligent people who constantly use text/chat speak online.

so what is your opinion? do you have more respect for people who type w/ good grammar/punctuation?

Would you think I was more intelligent if I typed like this?
would u thnk i was immature if i typd lyk this???~~*~

typin lyk dis or lIkE tHiS makes me think that person is very young.

i dont like constant chat speak but i dont judge people by it. and i obviously dont care that much about punctuation or capital letters...

I think I judge more for words that are not spelled right, or using the wrong 'to' 'where' or 'there'. Disregarding apostrophes kkkiiiiinda bugs me too.

That being said, chat speak, when used minimally is alright. But when someone tries to use entire paragraphs of it, I won't read it.

So yes, I do judge. If I see an entire paragraph full of errors, I'll probably just judge and not read, and not answer.

It doesn't make me think they're unintelligent, it just makes them seem annoying when they typ lyk dis!~~!!!!~.
I have a friend who always types like 'u' and 'ur' and 'kno' and stuff and she's smart.. she just types like that. That doesn't annoy me but stuff like excessive exclamation marks does.
And when people get 'your' and 'you're' and also 'they're', 'their' and 'there' wrong repeatedly, then it makes them seem not so smart to me. Occasional mistakes, fine. But constantly using the wrong one because they don't know the difference is a bit >.<

People who use the you're/your incorrectly or there/their/they're really bug me.

For example, perfectly intelligent honors-level kids (Juniors!) made a sign for the Senior Courtyard that says "You've Reached the gates of Heaven, do NOT enter unless your class of 2011".

Now, what's wrong with this sign? *taps finger on chin*

The "your" really bugs me. People really don't know the difference anymore? Weren't we taught this obsessively in elementary school?

I'm such a grammar/spelling Nazi. It's not even funny.

Using things like lol, omg, brb, idk, doesn't bother me (I do use these).
Not capitalizing or not using punctuation, doesn't bother me.
Using "u r crazy" bothers me, but I get over it.
Using things like, "lyk", drives me up the wall and it's hard for me to take it seriously. My friend said "I don't get nething." It took me, honestly, 2 months before I figured out that meant "anything". Anything is only one more letter than nething...

The only thing I really get from it is that the person is really young. I don't get it more than I hate it. I think it makes things confusing.

Online, I usually spell things out, use correct grammar (even if I do slip up a few times). When I'm texting, it's a different story though.

Anyways, if you typ lyk tis, it's a little annoying, but I don't think you're immature, I just think you're either young, or are just so used to "text typing" you use it on the computer too.

wen sum1 typs lyk dis i thnk thy r vry yung or imatur.

when someone types with u, or r, or abriviations or lowercase letters, i don't mind. I do that when Im in a hurry. But I just think its anoyin wen sum1 typs lyk dis.

Online I do judge a bit. I use some abbreviations like (omg, btws, fyi, lol, jk) but I try not to do it excessively, and sometimes I use them jokingly.

In school, I was taught to type as early as second grade, so it's pretty second nature to me. I used to freak out my friends when I could have a conversation with them and type/backspace at the same time without even glancing at my computer.

While I rarely use perfect grammar while typing online, I try not to make too many egregious errors.

I can be forgiving about a lot of things but "typin lyk dis" really doesn't save that much time and looks very immature to me.

I try not to. However, the only thing I have to go on about you is your typing. I don't know what kind of person you are. I don't know anything about you except what you choose to type here. And all I have to form an opinion on is what you say and how you say it. I think when the only medium of communication is the written word, the written word is important.

i don't REALLY...stuff like 'u' & 'r' don't bother me because they make sense. abbreviations and stuff like 'lol' 'omg' etc dont' bother me. but when people start typing things like 'lyk' or 'dat' it doesn't make sense to me and it kinda pisses me off and gives me a bad impression lol. like, WHY??? i just don't get why someone would put 'lyk' instead of 'like' unless they want to look dumb...
another thing that drives me batty and i just don't get why people do it is putting 2 i's in where there's only one......'liike thiis' I DONT GET IT! i see it on fb all the time!

so, puncutation, capitalization and abbreviations don't makes me judge but stuff that just doesn't make sense and is just chatspeak for the sake of chatspeak annoys me, and i dislike it.

It just annoys the heck outta me when people type "lyk dis"

It's takes no extra effort to spell the word properly. For example, properly spelling LIKE and spelling it LYK, there is literally one letter difference. So why not just put in the extra letter and change the Y to an I. Typing takes, practically, no energy, so I just don't understant why people type like that. Even as a preteen when typing like that was all the rage, i never did. I just comes across as immature and lazy to me.

Like Caitlin said, I also can't stand when people add extra letters for no reason. I have a friend who HAS to add atleast 2 extra letters to EVERY WORD SHE TYPES!! It's annoying as heck. I understand if you are emphasizing something, but not every stinkin' word.

Those are my only two typing complaints. lol

Occasionally I do. When people talk constantly in "text speak," I may think they're immature or obnoxious. If there are huge grammatical errors that make it so what they say makes no sense, that bugs me. This is why I don't like "text speak," it doesn't make sense to me. It's the same with huge spelling errors.
I also get annoyed when "you're" and "your," as well as "their," "there," and "they're" are used incorrectly, along with "to," "too," and "two."
I do use bad grammar and spelling when I'm in a hurry or am feeling lazy. However, I try to avoid it.

heh, yeah, that one actually does bother me a little.
i dont mind a coulple extra letters for emphasis - i've even done that - but when its like every word :headache:
i have a friend who types likeee thiss aalll the timeee and i read it in my head like she is talking with some sort of speech impediment.

"wh3n dha ppl tlk lyk dis" and say "yhu" instead of you it does bug me.

i don't talk so called "white", but i don't talk ignorant.

I can't stand when people don't use proper English online. I like to use correct grammar and spelling, even though I may slip up sometimes. Also, the use of abbreviations are perfectly fine with me, because, they are abbreviations. However, when someone types like "some1 2day n2 4 lyk rght" bugs me. Texting (or twitter, where you can only put 140 characters) is the only time when I find some of that appropriate. I understand if you don't have a full keyboard, but if you have a full keyboard, spell stuff out.

No, I have always been horrible with spelling/grammar. Math and science were by far my strong subjects and it reflected in the classes I took. Average level english and college level math/science classes while still in high school. I just figure that spelling/grammar is not their strongest point (if I even notice an error) and move on. I try hard not to judge anyone.

As for chat speak. It does not bother me. As long as I can figure out what they are saying all is good.

I always wonder though, when people use the wrong 'you're/your', I always wonder if they're joking. Like on Facebook someone will put like 'Your my _____ buddy'.
Like do they do it on purpose, to look cool? Or do they REALLY not know the difference?
I only think they could be doing it on purpose because everyone who hangs out together, and drinks together ALWAYS uses the wrong 'you're'.

It bugs the heck out of me. To me, if you can't take the time to type properly it seems that you just don't care. I guess that's just how I was raised.

Ppl who typ lyk dis really annoy me. If you type like that I won't read your post nine times out of ten.

The wrong your/you're, there/their/they're, waste/waist, etc; also gets me. It isn't that hard.

YES, very much so. really judge intelligence and class by how people type.
