Do you insure your child's musical instrument?

Does your insurance include damages done to the instrument while OUTSIDE the home? Like at band/string camp, or at school?

Our policy does cover this. I know of one incident where one student scratched up another student's instrument (trumpet) pretty badly. Insurance paid to restore the instrument. I made sure of that because with the kids in marching band, things happen... .

My hubby's tuba was stolen while he was in college. Thank goodness he had insurance otherwise there is no way he could have afforded $7,000 for a new one. Woodwind/Brasswind is awesome but I would really recommend going to a flute show. When hubby was looking for his replacement, he was able to get a much better tuba than his old for about $2300 cheaper than brasswind/woodwind.

How the heck does one steal a tuba? Do you stick it under your coat? Seriously, I can see just about any other instrument getting stolen, but a tuba!!!:laughing:

For the serious flute player, you should never use your flute for marching! One rain storm and you have totally ruined your pads! It just kills me when I see parents spend thousands of dollars on a flute and then hand it over to their kids to use for marching....:headache: These kids have to lay their instruments on the blacktop, grass and they get knocked off the bleachers etc...If at all possible keep an old flute or pick up a cheap one for marching band! Trust me out on the field, no one cares if your tone quality is perfect! :lmao:

DD marched for two years on a piccolo and I picked up one for her to use just for marching for around $200. It was well worth it consider how many times they marched in the rain!

The kids use their starter instruments for marching band practice but for performances they use their good ones. They do many competitions so people do care about tone quality, especially at BOA. We don't have any flute players-a trombone and 2 saxophones at our house.
