Noel Regney, who wrote the holiday classic "Do You Hear What I Hear" and the English lyrics for the 1963 number one hit "Dominique," died this week at age 80 in France, it was reported Wednesday (November 27), after a long illness.
He wrote "Do You Hear What I Hear" in 1962 as poem for peace. Bing Crosby made the song famous when he recorded it a year later. "Dominique" topped the charts in 1963 by French Nun Sister Luc-Gabrielle ("Sister Smile" in France, but simply "The Singing Nun" in America) and ended its five-week run a month before the British Invasion.
