Do you have to reserve ME ahead of time

We have no checked bags. Last time I went to Disney World, we just checked in at the ME desk at MCO and got into line. Do you have to register for ME online ahead of time?

you got lucky last time as the contract with the airport states that DME like other town car/livery companies can only take passengers with advance reservations.
 
The purpose of DME is to transport guests...not luggage. The luggage delivery service is a perk of using DME.
So, with that in mind, you got very lucky that you were allowed to just walk up and get on a bus. The private car service people and cab owners put up quite a stink when DME came into MCO. The only way they were appeased was Disney promising the airport that they would accept no walkups at the counter. You are supposed to make a prior reservation. You can do it the day before, but it has to be in their system when you show up at the counter.
 
How do I make a reservation. I looked on the disney website and it talks about getting something in the mail 42 days ahead. I have not received anything. I booked via Orbitz. I can't find the place on the disney website to sign up. Suggestions?

You ideally need your actual Disney reservation/confirmation number from Orbitz, and then you can book ME via http://www.disneysmagicalexpress.com/USA - or at least that's what Expedia had me do...

You will probably have to call Orbitz and insist to more than one person that they make the ME reservation for you. I once booked without ME through Orbitz and wanted to check in online and was not able to since Orbitz was not able to provide me with the reservation code in Disney's system. If the first person you contact refuses to help keep trying and if necessary ask for a supervisor. Orbitz is a travel agency and they need to provide the same service level as all others.

As already mentioned, you are going to have to contact Orbitz, and get your reservation number from them. Here's the issue....Orbitz 'owns' your reservation....you aren't really allowed to do anything with that reservation until you are standing at the checkin counter at WDW. This is the issue when booking through a third party and why we tend to recommend against booking this way.
So, call Orbitz, and have someone either book DME for you or get the correct reservation number.

Thank you for the link. I have the Disney Reservation number (it did take me two calls to Orbitz to get the right one). I could not find the correct web address to save my life. Success.
