Do you have to keep your shoes on for Kali River Rapids?

A while ago I read some posts from folks saying that Disney now requires you to have shoes on for KRR. I am wondering if this new policy has stuck, and if I should plan on carrying our flip flops in our backpack, because I really don't want our leather sneakers to be soaked.

I don't think that I would wear leather sneakers to MK. My feet would get terribly hot and I would be afraid of blisters. But if your sneakers are comfortable and that is what you want to wear, maybe you could either take flip flops or even water shoes. I would think that wet leather sneakers would make your feet sore and would rub blisters.

The last time I was on Kali, which admittedly was in 2001, they said to keep your shoes on but everyone (except me) ignored them and took off the shoes and put them in the water resistant compartment.

I walked around the rest of the day with shoes that squished with every step while everyone else had dry feet. Oh well, live and learn. From now on they will be off or I will save that ride for the end of the day, just before I leave.

We rode this ride last week and there were several signs saying you must wear shoes to ride the Kali River Rapids.---So, bring those flip flops and save your good shoes !

My girls rode this Thanksgiving and they weren't able to take their shoes off. We've always done so in the past but it has changed and they won't allow them in the bin now.

The first time we visited AK they didn't have extra shoes and their sneakers were soaked. The next time we went we made sure to have flip-flops at least for the ride. There is almost no way you'll come out of the ride with dry shoes.

(copied from another post)

Extend your legs, resting your feet on the upper rail just under the storage compartment. Your feet won't get as wet.

Shoes must be work to prevent injury claims from stepping on sharp objects.

One thing I may try next visit -- Hold my shirt between my outstretched arms to catch the big splash and prevent thing like credit card receipts in my pants pockets from being soaked.

As of last week, the shoe policy was in effect and being enforced by the CMs. Besides, it is smarter to just tuck your feet under the center of the raft where the container is. I got soaked but my feet stayed dry.

I only wear leather "sneakers". Reabok Princess, very comfy, very soft and even when wet conform to your foot, no blisters, for me anyway.

When we were down in Sept, they were enforcing this rule. My husband just waited until we had left the "dock" and were moving out of sight. Then he whipped off his shoes and threw them in the bin. He put them on quickly before we came back up to the "dock," while we were still out of sight. No CM was the wiser (and besides, they can't retrieve you once you are free floating...).

I just jammed my shoes (still on my feet) as close to the center of the raft as possible, way up under the bin. My feet stayed nice and dry, and didn't have to stress about getting my shoes on and off!

Never occured to us to bring flipflops (mine are leather anyway!), but this sounds like a good idea as well, if you don't mine carrying them.

Have fun.

I made the fateful mistake of wearing leather sandals with a heel one day to DW and hopping to AK, (to dress up for my fiance). When we went onto the Kali River Rapids. Same story. CM said I couldnt take them off.

Afterwards they were a little wet, but enough to make them more uncomfortable. So, I was the one, looking like a doofus, walking barefoot carrying them (or standing on top of them) in lines.

Never made that mistake again!

i always seem to have the misfortune (or luck - depending on how you look at it) of getting soaked to the bone all over on this ride. once soaked, we try to ride at least one more time - i'm already wet, what the heck.

I keep an extra set of clothes (including shoes) for each of us in either a locker or the car when visiting this park (only) and it has saved my modesty (and my chaffed rear from walking around in wet denim all day) more than once.

If you don't have aqua shoes or non-waterproof flip flops, buy a cheapo pair of shower thongs and take those w/ you!

Thanks to everyone for posting. DH will not want to take his sneakers off, so I appreciate the idea to tuck your feet up under the bin. DDs and I have cheap, light flip flops, so we will probably stuff them in our park bag.

Happy Holidays everyone.

Yes you have to keep them on as the sign says but guess what.. T-shirts you don't.

We were in a ride with an old guy who took his top off and placed it in the dry conpartment. He started a trend as others in the raft followed and had a dry top to put on afterwards.
